Lord Evolution: Starting With SS-rank Skills-Chapter 291: Calamity.(11)
Rowan brought out enough mana stones and passed them over to Dragun. After giving him the mana stones, Rowan went straight back into combat mode and began dealing with the serpent monsters while Dragun flew away to prepare the magic formation.
The sky was still rumbling non-stop.
It had become really dark, almost as dark as the darkest part of the night. The only atoms of illumination were the constant lightning flashing across the sky.
In such a condition, the monsters would naturally be stronger given their excellent perception at night. They could've easily overpowered the soldiers with that alone.
But that seems to be impossible.
"Do not hold back! Fight with all you've got!"
Captain Roland barked at his soldiers as he pushed back a group of fiery-tailed monkeys. The monkeys were about the size of a human being, with black fur that made them overpowering at night; fiery orange stripes ran brightly across the black fur. Nevertheless, it had a long, sharp-pointed tail that glowed and burned brightly with flames — this was its power.
It could whip the tail around voluntarily to fight or defend itself during combat. It could stab, strangle, and execute a range of combat maneuvers with the tail.
Its sharpness and the scorching flames made the tail an unstoppable weapon.
Currently, around three hundred of them were ganging up on a small percentage of the Winterseed army.
Captain Roland and Captain Josh, along with some of their underlings, could be seen pushing back the fiery-tailed monkeys.
"Use your instincts more than your eyes," Josh sounded another warning to the soldiers.
Monsters like the fiery-tailed monkeys are among the top predators at night. Their dark fur makes them difficult to track at night; it gives them strong natural stealth.
In a battle against them at night, one's instinct and reflex are their best aid.
Josh swung his sword and paid attention to his men. Thanks to the frequent flashes of lightning, he could mark and judge the next move of the fiery-tailed monkeys.
Frequently, he called out warnings to certain soldiers to make a particular move to avoid the attacks coming at them. His warnings have been able to save a dozen of them from death, although half of them sustained injuries from moving too slowly.
HEHEHEHE!
The annoying laugh-like sounds of the monkeys did not stop. It was as though they were in the midst of clowns who would not stop laughing.
Roland gritted his teeth and swung his sword even more seriously. The laughs were driving him crazy.
While the swordsmen and the martial-arts squads sort of had it easy, the same could not be said for the archers.
If they were alone, they would easily shoot arrows indiscriminately at the tide of monsters.
Nevertheless, as it stands now, doing so would only cause more casualties on their side compared to the monsters, who still numbered in the tens of thousands, even after thousands of them had fallen.
But were they completely useless?
Fortunately, they weren't.
Captain George had already perfected his archery. Even at night, his perception was excellent, and he could take aim at the furthest enemy without missing.
This was the same for a few other archers.
As for the others who hadn't perfected their craft, they took out the daggers handed to them by Rowan, and began defending themselves with them.
Although they were not trained in close combat or the use of daggers, they could still stab effectively with the strength of their first evolution backing them up.
Nevertheless, their rate of death increased slightly; those who came in close contact with the monsters were unfortunate and met quick death, while another big percentage sustained injuries.
"Ahhhhh!"
At a position in the bloody war, the huge figure of Bryce could be seen smashing smaller monsters as though they were nothing.
His moves and form were akin to a gorilla's. His movement was lethal, and his arms appeared to magically grow bigger while smashing; the impact on the monsters was even unnatural.
Winston could also be seen, silently drifting through the midst of some strange-looking, red-scaled monsters that walked on two feet.
He was like a sword king in the middle of tribulation.
The next second, Dragun landed beside him and wove a powerful fire-attribute attack at the foes, pushing them back.
The young swordman's attention was immediately drawn by the heat and the sudden illumination from the fire magic spell. He thought a monster with flame powers had appeared to brawl with him and quickly made a reflexive move as he turned in the direction of Dragun.
"Sir Dragun?"
He muttered.
Dragun flashed a smile at the brilliant swordman. Without wasting time, he told the young swordman what he was here for — he needed his assistance to draw and activate the magic formation.
Naturally, Winston would refuse as he would rather fight to death with this unending tide of monsters than leave.
But after hearing the cause, he was immediately moved.
Dragun grabbed him by the arms and began flying him out and away from the battlefield.
Whilst flying above the battlefield, the young swordman took the opportunity to observe the battlefield, and he was quite surprised by the sheer number of monsters.
They were an unending wave of them — there seems to be no end as they kept pouring out from the unknown.
As lightning flashed, the scary population of the monsters became even more visible; he even spotted countless gigantic and horrifying ones, they were the kind he had never seen or heard of before and based on their size and expression alone, he could tell they were going to be a hellish opponent to take care of.
"How long is this hell really going to last?" he wondered.
Meanwhile, whilst Dragun and the going swordman went to prepare the formation to hold the back the heavy rainstorm. Rowan proceeded with his plan.

At that moment, Black Drifter arrived and took his master faraway from the battlefield.
