Chapter 183: A bad princess.
Biting her teeth, the empress accepted the edict in her hands and replied, "I obey his command and thank him for his grace."
Ji Waning and the royal secretaries retreated.
In another part of the royal castle where the chambers of the princesses were, in her private quarters, Long Shuang had also received the same treatment as her mother. Even her smart mirror had been captured which she was screaming about.
In her case, she was forced to kneel to receive the royal edict and it was read by her grandmother or as she was titled, the empress mother." The Emperor in compliance with the Will of Heaven, proclaims: Since the beginning of the Long Dynasty, an Imperial princess must live by example and honor. The conduct of Princess Long Shuang has brought dishonor to the royal house. She has no sense of duty and has discarded etiquette like scattered petals. She deems herself to be above all all those who toil beneath the golden rooftops of our empire. Such arrogance cannot take root in the house of the dragon."
"Let me go you peasants." Long Shuang screamed at the maids that were holding down.
They remained steady and the empress dowager continued to read the edict.
"Thus, the Emperor has decided that the princess shall depart from from all her comforts and enter the royal temple where she shall labor alongside the monks and learn from the nuns. She will learn to live like others and understand the grievances of the common people.
Only after she has mended her ways and comprehended the weight of her birthright shall she be allowed to return. If she fails to learn, she will be stripped of her royal title and relegated to the common ranks. Let this be a lesson forged in hardship and sealed by honor.
I decree this!"
The empress dowager walked closer as the maids put Long Shuang on her feet, forcing her to hold her hands out and receive the decree.
"Hurry up, receive the decree." The empress mother told her sternly.
"Are you stupid?" Long Shuang replied.
Every royal servant the served Long Shuang along with those that had come with the empress dowager were shocked. One could not even hold back the gasp which came rushing out of her mouth.
The empress mother drew her hand back and slapped Long Shuang on the cheek. "I told your father long ago to separate you from your mother because she was filling your head with nonsense but he thought you were too young and needed the care of your mother. You have no respect for anyone. If you are left unchecked, you will put this royal house in great danger one day.
The Long dynasty will not be allowed to fall just because of a rotten thing like you. I will kill you myself before that happens." She looked at the royal maids. "Strip her of her silk garments and put her in ordinary cotton. Nothing branded or expensive, find some cheap stuff. When you have finished, cut off her hair and drive her to the temple, the nuns are expecting you."
"You bitch.." Long Shuang. "I am the royal princess, how dare you touch my hair?"
There were many more gasps this time round. Even the empress dowager was among those hat gasped. Long Shuang was willful...sure! but to call her own grandmother, the empress dowager a bitch!!!!!
She had taken it too far.
"Princess don’t..hurry and apologize." One of Long Shuang’s maids advised quickly.
"You are courting death." The empress mother barked and she slapped Long Shuang again, harder than she had done the first time.
Perhaps slapping a six year old was not the best solution but this was the royal family. One wrong seed could cause the downfall of an entire house and end a dynasty. If the bad seed was a child of the emperor, it was even worse. Long Shuang was already the most disliked princess in the royal family.
The media loved sharing her most ungraceful moments with the public. She did not help with the way she gave them something to write about all the time by acting arrogant and always harming others in one way or another.
"I will not apologize. I am not wrong, I am the princess, a princess is never wrong. I am going to tell my mother and she will deal with you." Long Shuang threatened the empress.
At this point, nobody was even shocked anymore. How could they expect remorse from Long Shuang? As far she was concerned, she and her mother were the overlords of the empire.
Sputtering and heaving, the empress mother pointed at Long Shuang. "Your mother will deal with me! It seems the two of you are even more rotten than I imagined. Remove this stupid thing from my sight before I do something unthinkable."
"Who are you calling stupid you old witch? You are the one that is stu...." A maid covered Long Shuang’s mouth quickly with her hand.
Two of them dragged her into the bedroom from where her hair would be shaved off. She was screaming so loudly that one would think she had been locked inside with a killer.
She was not just screaming, she was cursing too, yelling all the profanities that she had learned from her mother.
Outside, the bedroom door, the empress mother was patting her chest, trying to calm herself. She was regretting not having ensured that Long Shuang spent less time with her mother like it had been done with Long Wen.
Long Wen was calm, respectful, filled with compassion, had learned etiquette and she was even familiarizing herself with the businesses of the royal family at the age of eight. When she was Long Shuang’s age, she had already learned the classics and history of the empire from the first dynasty to the current one. She was also learning two foreign languages, horsemanship, calligraphy and poetry recitation.
She also had learned archery, Tai Chi and traditional dancing. Currently, she was also learning diplomacy, chess and go, how to play guqin, painting and the art of tea making.
She kept to her daily schedule and she was attentive like most of the other girls in the royal family that understood their positions.
But Ling Shuang, she had learned the opposite to the extent that the mighty little peep star had posted about it the previous year.
The mighty Little peep star: [The bad lessons of a bad princess.
1. Imperial protocol or the art of forcing everyone to bow before her and calling them peasants.
2. Poetry reciting or the art of insulting in riddles. When her teacher said, "Better to light a candle than curse the darkness," Long Shuang said, "Better to summon a servant than lift a single finger."
3.Classical Chinese or the art of disrespecting the sages and calling them old fools. When her teacher said patience is a virtue, she said patience is for servants and commoners with nowhere better to be and nothing useful to do with their time.
4.Horseback riding or the art of animal cruelty like pricking the horse with a needle when she is scolded by the teacher.
5.Lessons on Diplomacy or screaming at everyone that disagrees with her and stomp on the floor until cracks appear in the marble.
6. The art of tea making or splashing hot tea in the faces of her servants when she fails to brew the tea correctly. Better yet, splash the tea on the teacher for telling her that her skills are subpar.
