Chapter 174: A general’s tea party.
It was an exciting day for a group of toddlers that arrived at Mei Mei’s house three days later, escorted by their parents who equally excited after they were informed by their children that they had a play date at the home of the owner of Hua Qi cakes.
When they arrived, the atmosphere surprised them. Small white tents had been set up in the between the garden and the swimming pool. Inside the tents, a children’s tea party had been prepared.
It was a luxurious tea party, not a simple one where a girl and her stuffed toys sat around a table drinking out of tiny plastic cups. This was the epitome of luxury as far as children’s parties went.
For starters before reaching the tents, the guests walked on a runway of pink rose petals. Mingzhu wanted floating petals but with the strength of the wind, they kept flying away so that plan was set aside.
In every tent, golden birdcages housing rare singing canaries and other beautiful birds had been hung mid air or placed on high stools. For those that were familiar with the way the Jun family operated, it was no surprise. But to those new to it, the sight was astonishing.
The tables were draped with silk tablecloths embroidered with gold and silver threads which came directly from the royal castle. The sets that were provided by grandma Jun and grandma Feng--pure porcelain, some were even encrusted with diamonds and sapphires. Others were light transparent crystal glass which was heat resistant.
And then came the guest list. For a children’s tea party, it had attracted a lot of wealthy and influential members of the elite society. The parents that brought their children all chose to sit for a while and enjoy the beautiful environment.
The children themselves were as powerful financially as their parents, some had even come from the royal family, toddlers and teenagers all excited because Phoenix toys was launching some new toys at the tea party. There would be no press conference but pictures would be taken.
The tea itself was not the usual ordinary tea blends. Juan tea had brought out their rare exquisite teas which were sold for hundreds of thousands per spoon of tea leaves. One could not discuss the teas without mentioning the pastries which accompanied it. Hua Qi snacks only, all beautiful, all new and all rare flavors which outsiders had never seen. Their famous cheesecake was not to be missed, different flavors of it were lining up, waiting to fill the bellies of the guests.
For Mingzhu, this was the best party ever and her first party with friends. All of her last birthday parties only had two people, her and her mother. The little girl was going around claiming that it was her birthday.
For Mei Mei, she had an entirely different problem. When Rize had about the tea party yesterday, she had the brilliant idea to put all the children in traditional wear, dressed as princesses and princes from different empires and kingdoms, real and fictional. Some of the costumes had even been taken from Phoenix Ent.
All the children looked lovely and cute, except for two. One was Tao Xiaotong who was dressed as a modern chef and pestering madam Feng and Jingzhe for the secret recipe of Hua Qi’s cakes. Two was Mingzhu who had been dressed as an ancient general, with a red fur cloak she had been given by Jun Lian and waving around a wooden sword which Emperor Junjie had given to her as a gift.
Mei Mei had kidnapped Mingzhu and they were both in her bedroom. She was trying to convince her daughter to try on a princess dress. It was a beautiful white and blue dress, dangling between her fingers as it swayed back and forth.
"Baby, look, you will be the flower fairy Jin Mi." Mei Mei coaxed her is a sweet voice.
Mingzhu jumped up, thrusting the sword out. "Whoosh....whoosh...whoosh...." She made such sounds with her mouth while slashing the air, showing off the best moves she had learned from her uncle Mingzhe.
Mei Mei put the dress on the bed and picked up her daughter with one hand, grabbing her clothes from the back of the neck like a mother cat carrying a kitten in her mouth. "Jun Mingzhu, you will be a princess, okay. Lian is also a princess, doesn’t she look pretty in her dress with the shiny bows in her hair? Just be a princess this once and next time, you can be a general. You promised me that you would behave today."
"But I don’t want to be a princess." Mingzhu whined. "Mingzhu wants to be a general beating up the bad guys. Mingzhu wants to be like uncle Mingzhe. He promised me that I would be the next imperial commander."
Mei Mei frowned and she smacked Mingzhu on the butt once. "You will be the next imperial commander! Does our Jun family own the rights to the army? Did your uncle get a patent for the position? Are you trying to rebel?"
Mingzhu hissed but she retained her determination. "This general will be a general. Mommy, you have become a lying mommy. Is that a little green man toy in your bed? Mommy, how can you hide toys from me? When did this begin? Betrayal, you have betrayed this general again."
Mei Mei turned her head around and she saw the one plushie she had manged to hide from Mingzhu’s toy sniffing nose since the day after her first date with Mingzhu. She had given Mingzhu the bunny.
When her daughter heard about the amusement park visit and saw pictures, she had immediately declared her parents betrayers, run upstairs and come out with her schoolbag, threatening to run away from home and move in with Rose’s family.
One look from madam Feng had sent Mingzhu back upstairs very quickly. When she returned, she said she had considered things and her pets were too young to be left alone.
To comfort her, Mei Mei had surrendered her toys, except for the green alien plushie. The alien was all she had left as a physical reminder of the date. Jun Yi had borrowed the elephant ears and she had not returned them. Mei Mei had a feeling she would not be seeing them anytime soon.
Every time she asked for them back, Jun Yi run to Jingzhe in tears, called him brother-in-law and he folded like a cheap lawn chair.
Mei Mei put Mingzhu down on her feet and she patted her soft armor, then brushed her hand over hair. "Baby, mommy was wrong, you can be a general. Being a princess is so out of fashion anyway. Let us go and find some bad guys to beat." She carried Mingzhu out of the room very quickly before more could be said on the green alien man.
