When the living room doors were opened, little Mingzhu’s eyes were widened. She was old enough to recall that every time she went to a gathering like this, filled with adults, trouble always found her and her mother.

She looked from the many relatives to her mother. Her small hand reached out and tugged at Mei Mei’s shirt. "Mommy, they are many. Why?" She asked, her big eyes filled with caution.

Mei Mei leaned towards her with a reassuring smile. "We have a big family, mommy’s family. You have met some of them before when mommy was in the hospital. Do you remember them?"

She bit her bottom lip and nodded slowly. "Mommy, how many relatives do we have?"

Mei Mei decided to just mention the number of people in her family chat group. "Mmm, like eighty three."

"EIGHTY THREE!" Mingzhu’s tiny fists clenched. It was such a big number, the same as all the babies in her former kindergarten put together and more than the ones in her new class.

Suddenly, someone shrieked and Mingzhu was ambushed and ripped out of Jingzhe’s arms by great grandpa Jun. "My great great great granddaughter. Our Mingzhu, you have grown so much!"

Chi Zimo snatched her from him, put her down and squeezed her cheeks like she was a stress ball. "Wow, Mei Mei, this is like seeing a young you. She looks so much like you."

Before Mingzhu could complain about the old grandma style of cheek pinching, Chi Rui lifted her up with a single hand and spun her in the air. "Our Mingzhu, you are so tall for your age, no wonder you are a general." [He was lying, she was not tall. In fact, she was short for her age.]

She was liberated and found herself in the embrace of great grandma Jun. "Good girl, call great great grandma."

Her little head was turned to grandma Chi. "Baby, those are too many words, just call great grandma."

"Great grandma." Mingzhu said coquettishly.

A round of happy noise rose. It was so loud and strong, as if they were at a football match and their team had just scored a goal against all odds. And then, they started shoving gifts at her.

"I got you a glittery diamond stuffed pink hairband." Chi Zhenzhu told her. "Do you like it?"

Mingzhu was not so sure if she wanted to walk around with such a shiny hairband but she nodded. She had no choice but to accept because it was a gift from her aunt.

"I got you a set of pink and gold cutlery." Chi Zimo said. He presented it to her, opening the box for her to look at.

He had even included a set of plates of different sizes, bowls, a tea pot, cups. All the things that she would need if she hosted a tea party with her dolls. All were pink and gold, extremely luxurious.

Chi Rui pushed him aside, "Baby, uncle got you a custom made doll house." He carried her to the window to show her the doll house which was being assembled outside. It was not a house, it was a large castle that would not not fit through the door. "Now you have your own house. I got you two doll houses, you can play with another one when you are inside."

The gifts piled up--a pony and a diamond-encrusted pony saddle. A miniature private island, a custom made perfume, a helicopter with her name on it, a gold plated gaming console and cabin, a giant teddy bear made of real arctic fox fur, a personal chef that used to work for the royal family, a baby white tiger, a unicorn shaped space ship named The Mingzhu, a personal assistant.

To the pet list, two rare koi fish and one gold fish were added.

The gifts were so many and so luxurious that poor Mingzhu had no idea where to begin or what to say. The hugging never seemed to end and she was consumed by one bear hug after another. Her cheeks were pinched so much that they turned red.

Every single time her face was within the arm reach of of her grandmother, great grandmother or great great grandmother, she was pinched.

She thought she would find help in her mother’s arms but alas! her mother was happily chatting with Chi Zhenzhu. They were discussing shopping for the up coming national liberation day celebrations the following week.

Betrayal! This general has been betrayed...Mingzhu thought.

Chi Zimo was about to pinch Mingzhu’s cheeks when his hand was slapped away by his mother.

"Let her cheeks rest. Look at my great granddaughter, you have turned her into a tomato."

Mingzhu nodded and she covered her cheeks.

The living room door slid open and in walked Jang Cherry, with two of her assistants, each carrying a wrapped gift.

"Sorry, I am late." She announced.

Her head craned around, she saw Mingzhu in the midst of all the gifts and the first thing she did was pull out a camera and take pictures. Then, she went to Mingzhu and hugged her. "Baby, I am your great grand aunt Cherry but call me Cherry."

Her assistants unwrapped the gifts, revealing a a beautiful white and black hanfu and a very luxurious exaggerated crown."Baby, a girl’s first crown is very important."

"It is not her first crown." Mei Mei threw out.

"It will be her first official crown while attending the national liberation day ceremony at the Southern royal palace in Sea city. Our baby girl must have the trendiest crown. She must outdo the snotty princess Long Shuang."

The crown was held by two assistants, it looked so heavy that Mingzhu’s poor neck would have to do some exercises before she could wear it. It was a pure gold crown with a very large blue sapphire and diamonds so bright that everyone was covering their eyes or finding their sunglasses because they could not look at it directly.

It also had a built-in light show powered by artificial fireflies.

Madam Feng gasped when she took a closer at it. Surely, this was all too much! The luxurious gifts were already jaw dropping but the crown was over the top.

"This is....its too much." Mei Mei gasped as well.

"Nonsense," Cherry laughed. "Our Mingzhu is a pretty princess and she deserves the best." She kissed the tips of her fingers and said in an excellent French accent "Notre bebe sera magnifique."

"C’est trop Cherry, tres excessif !" Mei Mei raised her voice dramatically.

"Enough with the French!" Great great grandma Jun shouted. "You are only confusing our Mingzhu." She turned to Mingzhu who was lost indeed and explained to her what had been said. "Cherry said that our baby will be magnificent and your mother told her that the crown is over the top and very extravagant."

Mingzhu begged to disagree with her mother for the crown was pretty.

"Let’s try it on." Cherry said excitedly lifting Mingzhu to her feet.

The two assistants placed the crown on her head and Mingzhu fell backward, onto the arctic fox fur teddy bear.

A dozen hands reached out to help her. Even Noodles was concerned and the cat came to help. [Try to drag the shiny crown away to play with it.]

When Noodles failed, she went to seek out General Big Yellow for help.

But in the meantime, Mei Mei gestured for the gifts to be put away, including the crown. "We will stick to tiara’s for now. But no worries, Mingzhu will dazzle more than Long Shuang on that day."
