How I Tamed My Wolfish Husband Back in 80s-Chapter 445 - 447: Being Petty_1
Chapter 445: Chapter 447: Being Petty_1
A family of three was enjoying their time together when a greeting came from the door.
"Is everyone home?"
Li Qiao looked up and saw Peng Chunhua with a little boy in her arms, looking somewhat better compared to her haggard appearance last year.
The little girl heard Peng Chunhua’s voice and ran outside with lifted legs. "Mom, you’re back! Grandma wouldn’t let me eat, so I had my meal at my aunt’s and even got a bun for my little brother from her."
"Your little brother won’t eat it; there’s no need to trouble others for it." Peng Chunhua said, smiling at Li Qiao, "I bothered you today. I was going to take her back to my mother’s home with me, but her grandma said she’d take her, and she ended up at your place."
Li Qiao replied, "It wasn’t a bother, she played by herself." Twins might have similar temperaments. Once, Xu Feng wrote to her in a letter, mentioning the child’s well-being spontaneously, bragging about how the child was well-behaved and liked by the entire family. freewёbn૦νeɭ.com
"You all are busy, I’ll take the children and go first." After Peng Chunhua took the children and left, Li Qiao returned to her own child’s side.
The family of three stayed in the courtyard until the sun began to set, then went back inside the house. Li Qiao read stories to soothe the child to sleep while Qin Jin went out to take care of things.
And just like that, the day passed by.
The next day, the fifth day, since the sixth day was set to make up a banquet for the child, the hired chef arrived early in the morning.
Driving a tractor, and bringing their own tables, chairs, and dishes.
In the past, when villagers held banquets, they would borrow tables and stools from neighbors, but when returning them, they had to offer candy or tobacco and liquor as a gesture of thanks.
Qin Jin did not borrow from anyone, and many people had opinions about it.
"Doesn’t she want to give us happy candy or pastries?"
"I guess so. The Qin family is rich now but stingy too."
"Stop talking, Old Mrs. Qin is coming."
But their gossip was overheard by Old Mrs. Qin as she passed by. She said, "Who are you looking down upon? Those who come to drink will get a big gift pack from us, but sadly you’re not invited, so there’s nothing for you."
"We’re all from the same village; it’s hardly proper not to invite us," someone protested.
Old Mrs. Qin said, "In the past, when you families had weddings or funerals, I gave generous gifts. Later, when Jin got married and we sent you invitations, you didn’t come. Weren’t you the ones who wanted to cut ties?" She walked away.
For a moment, no one knew what to say.
They had looked down on Qin Jin before, so they didn’t want to associate with her. But who could have known that the little troublemaker from before would become a big boss?
Is it too late to change their minds now?
........
After Old Mrs. Qin returned home, Li Qiao was chatting with Xu Maimiao while holding the baby.
Xu Maimiao was pregnant with her second child and quietly told Li Qiao, then asked her if she also wanted to have another one.
"I haven’t thought about it. Baby, do you want a little brother or sister?"
Qin Baby replied, "Yes."
Xu Maimiao was surprised, "Yes? He can already speak? At my house, the kids start walking before they learn to talk. At his age, they only know how to call for grandma. There’s an old saying that whoever a child calls first will have the hardest time."
Li Qiao was surprised, "Really? Baby first called me, but Jin is the one who worries more." He eats with the baby in his arms, goes to work with the baby in his arms, even holds meetings that way, and carries the baby when inspecting work or discussing business deals."
Xu Maimiao said, "Looks like old sayings can’t always be trusted."
"What are you two talking about?" Old Mrs. Qin asked.
Xu Maimiao greeted Old Mrs. Qin, then shared the news about her second pregnancy: "I hope this child will be a girl. Fugui looks at your son and nags me every day about having a girl, so we can become in-laws."
Old Mrs. Qin smiled warmly, "A daughter is nice; she’s caring. But let’s not think about becoming in-laws just yet. The kids will grow up and might not even fancy each other."
Xu Maimiao said, "Yunye is so handsome, he’s bound to fancy her."
Old Mrs. Qin asked, "Why don’t you ask Yunye if he agrees?"
Xu Maimiao gently said, "Auntie, if I give you a little sister, would you like her to be your bride?"
The little one stayed silent.
"He’s too young to know what a bride means," Li Qiao said, trying a different approach. "Baby, your mom is your dad’s bride. She lives in the same room with him, eats at the same table, and sometimes he even eats my leftovers. This auntie wants to give birth to a little sister for you, to be your bride. Do you want that?"
The child shook his head like a rattle-drum.
Old Mrs. Qin bent over with laughter.
Xu Maimiao said, "He doesn’t understand now, but he’ll cherish it when he’s older."
Li Qiao, "You said he doesn’t understand now, so why bring it up? Right, Baby?"
Qin Baby replied, "Seems."
Xu Maimiao grew even fonder, "So smart, I must have a daughter and bring you over as my son."
The child hid in Li Qiao’s arms.
Li Qiao couldn’t help but chuckle, "There you go, you haven’t had the child yet but you’re already thinking about a son-in-law."
They chatted and laughed together, and at noon, the eldest sister arrived, holding holiday gifts in her hand.
Li Qiao was busy entertaining.
Seeing this, Xu Maimiao left.
Li Jiaoyang started by offering a red envelope to the child to curry favor, asking to hold him. After being rejected, he began to catch up with Li Qiao, "If it wasn’t for Liu Er telling me to come here for the wedding toast tomorrow, I wouldn’t have known you returned home. When did you come back?"
Li Qiao, "Just got back the day before yesterday."
Li Jiaoyang continued, "Your place is pretty busy today, isn’t it? There’s a stove being set up at the door, and pots being supported. Where’s Jin?"
"He took the people who want to move to the city to the county town for medical exams."
Li Jiaoyang, "My two elder sisters and their whole families also want to take their children to move to the city with us. Can Jin help with that?"
Li Qiao, "If they pass the medical exam, they can."
"Even family members need a medical exam?"
Li Qiao, "Everyone must, it’s a strict rule now."
"I’ll have them come to Jin later."
"You definitely can’t today or tomorrow, only the day after," Li Qiao said.
Once they had agreed, Li Jiaoyang approached Qin Baby again, "Want to be held by Auntie?"
Qin Baby looked down and ignored him.
Li Jiaoyang, "I haven’t had the chance to hold this child since he was born."
Li Qiao, "He doesn’t like to be held unless you have something he is interested in."
Li Jiaoyang fished around in her pocket and pulled out two candies, "Auntie will hold you, and give you candy."
Qin Baby still ignored her.
Li Qiao, "He knows he can’t eat your candy."
Li Jiaoyang really couldn’t coax him, "Too hard to please, with his character, child traffickers definitely won’t be able to abduct him."
Li Qiao, "Do traffickers abduct? They just snatch." She had heard more than once about children being snatched and about young girls being taken away at train stations, not to mention encountering child traffickers when she brought the children before the New Year.
Now, she hardly dared take minibuses alone with the child.
For fear of being targeted when not paying attention.
"...."
......
After chatting for a while, Li Jiaoyang suggested leaving, and Li Qiao saw her out.
Less than half an hour after returning to the courtyard, Yu Xiu arrived with gifts, looking around before saying, "Li Qiao, what’s going on at your house’s front door? Who is celebrating?"
"A belated feast for the child."
Yu Xiu, "Why didn’t you notify me?"
Li Qiao teased, "Didn’t you already attend the wedding feast? Want to give a present now?"
Yu Xiu, "I thought it was the half-year celebration."
Li Qiao, "That’s not the custom in our village. Do they do that in your town?"
Yu Xiu, while speaking, pulled out a red envelope and stuffed it into the child’s pocket, "Auntie hold you, no?"
Qin Baby twisted his body to refuse.
Yu Xiu pretended to be heartbroken, "Came all the way here to see you and I can’t even hold you for a moment?"
