How I Tamed My Wolfish Husband Back in 80s-Chapter 428 - 430: Where Does The Confidence Come From_1
Chapter 428: Chapter 430: Where Does The Confidence Come From_1
The wind outside was piercing cold, with the snow falling heavier and heavier.
The shuttle bus had stopped running, and the bike ride was too far, so Qin Jin decided to stay overnight. He used the office phone to call the Xue Family, and it just so happened that Xue Lingqing picked up. He thus asked Xue to inform Old Mrs. Qin that they wouldn’t be coming home that night.
Xue Lingqing agreed promptly.
After hanging up the phone, Qin Jin went to the cafeteria to get some food.
Li Qiao noticed a bowl of thick white rice porridge inside the insulated box: "Why take porridge when there’s rice?"
"It’s for my son."
Li Qiao: "Didn’t you say that you should wait until he’s six months old before adding supplementary foods?"
"A little over five months should be okay, I think. He needs to drink milk so often that it seems it’s not enough for him anymore. Porridge can stave off hunger; let him eat a little at first and then we’ll slowly add other things later," Qin Jin said as he began to feed porridge to the baby.
The child was trying something other than formula for the first time and maybe wasn’t used to the taste. His facial features twisted slightly in rejection of another sip.
Qin Jin patiently coaxed, "Son, this is good stuff. Even your dad couldn’t always have had it when I was little."
Li Qiao continued, "Porridge will be your main food in the future, you’ve got to get used to it early."
The child was very receptive, opening his mouth willing to take a second bite.
Qin Jin fed him five spoonfuls and then gave him a bottle of milk to drink while lying on the couch.
Li Qiao and Qin Jin ate the food they had packed, and the child who had put down the bottle watched them swallowing quietly, "Mama."
Li Qiao turned her head to look at him, "How about Mama finishes eating and then keeps you company, okay?"
The child hummed in agreement, turning his head to look out the window, avoiding the temptation of food.
Li Qiao didn’t eat much. After putting down her chopsticks, she held the child and stood by the window to watch the snow.
Qin Jin: "If it snows all night, you probably won’t be able to get to class tomorrow."
"If it really comes down to it, I’ll skip class tomorrow."
.....
As the sky gradually darkened, the family, without other forms of entertainment, settled down early.
The following day, when they drew back the curtains, the surroundings were already covered in white snow.
The nearby shuttle bus had stopped running, but if you walked two kilometers north, you could catch a tram. She still decided to go to school: "Baby, you and Daddy stay here. Mama will come back to see you in the afternoon."
Qin Jin: "There will definitely be people clearing the snow on the roads; the traffic should be back to normal by afternoon. You can go straight home after school."
"Okay," Li Qiao left the office compound.
Zhou Ju approached her: "Sis, where are you going? Aren’t you bringing the kid?"
Li Qiao didn’t stop walking, "I’m a bit busy with something."
Zhou Ju watched Li Qiao’s receding figure, her eyes spinning as she shamelessly knocked on Qin Jin’s office door.
Qin Jin thought Li Qiao might have left something behind, but when he opened the door and saw it was Zhou Ju, impatience flickered in his eyes.
Before he could say anything, she enthusiastically said, "Director Qin, your wife is busy today and there’s no one to look after the child. I used to babysit a lot for my brother’s family; I’m very experienced. Let me take care of him for you, I guarantee I’ll do a good job."
Qin Jin: "No need, also, your services are no longer needed here. When finance starts working later, go over there and collect your wages."
Zhou Ju was baffled, "Did I, did I do something wrong?"
Qin Jin: "You’re wrong in thinking too highly of yourself. Coming to cozy up to me when my wife isn’t here? Don’t think I’m unaware of your intentions. If you don’t have the money for a mirror, take a piss and look at yourself in it. Do you think I’d be interested in you?"
Humiliated and incensed, Zhou Ju dropped her act: "In what way am I not better than your wife? She must have let herself go after having a baby, but I haven’t had any kids."
Qin Jin let out a sneer. She wanted to compete with his wife on body shape? Where did she get the confidence? "You say she’s not in shape and that makes it so? Not to mention her figure, my wife is a postgraduate from Beijing University; what are you? Did you even finish middle school?" ƒreewebɳovel.com
Zhou Ju couldn’t believe it. Pretty girls weren’t supposed to be dumb, were they? The factory director’s wife was actually a university graduate. "You, don’t you dare look down on me!"
"Indeed, I do look down on you. A girl with no shame, wanting to get involved with a married man," Qin Jin grabbed her and threw her out the door.
Liu Er happened to see this.
Liu Er’s eyes bulged: "What’s going on?"
Zhou Ju fell hard and was in pain. Added to that the embarrassment of being seen, she felt utterly humiliated and scrambled to her feet, running away.
Qin Jin, hearing the commotion, reopened the door: "That woman was trying to seduce me, and I sternly rejected her. Hurry up and get rid of her, and in the future, when hiring female workers try to choose married ones."
"Marriage can be quite complicated," Liu Er said.
Qin Jin replied, "Find a wife like yours, few and reliable, capable and hard-working."
Liu Er grinned, baring his teeth, "A woman like my wife is hard to find, Da Bao. How did that woman seduce your dad? Tell uncle about it."
The child stared at Liu Er with wide eyes.
"What are you glaring at me for?"
Qin Jin retorted, "Who asked you to take pleasure in others’ misfortune?"
"...."
.......
After finishing his first class, Li Qiao was approached by Mao Jun back at the school.
"Consultant Li."
Li Qiao asked, "Another case?"
Mao Jun said, "Yeah, are you free?"
"My classes this morning are full. Can I come over to your place at noon?"
Mao Jun hesitated, then nodded.
After seeing him off, Li Qiao proceeded to his second class. During the long break, a student approached her, "Li Qiao, now that you’ve become a consultant for the criminal investigation team, how much do they pay you a month?"
Li Qiao answered, "Ninety-six."
The student covered her mouth in shock, "That much? With the school’s graduate stipend, your monthly earnings exceed a hundred. I’m so envious of you."
Li Qiao said, "The money’s not so easy to earn. I’ve got to work for it. Haven’t you seen people often coming to find me?"
"It’s not every day they come looking for you. If it were me, I’d like to do that part-time job. Tell me quickly how I can join you guys."
Li Qiao smiled, "Well... it’s hard to get in if you’re not a specialist. I also joined this field by chance after handling quite a few cases early on, and only got in through someone else’s recommendation."
"...."
...
After the morning classes had ended, Li Qiao cycled back home and then to the criminal investigation department, where Mao Yawen handed her a stack of documents.
It was another dismemberment case.
The victim was a male, thirty years old, a doctor at a local hospital.
His wife reported him missing a week ago after two days of searching without success.
Following a public report, the police found two severed legs in a garbage house. A more thorough search pieced together the rest of the victim’s body. They contacted the family of the missing person to identify the body and confirmed his identity.
Colleagues interviewed and vetted the victim’s social circle, ruling out their suspicions.
But the case had since reached a deadlock.
After grasping the general information, Li Qiao looked through the wife’s statement. "Could it have been the work of the victim’s significant other?"
"She has an alibi."
"This case is difficult," Mao Jun observed.
"The kind that require someone to be chopped up into pieces -- there’s usually a grudge involved," Li Qiao said, flipping through the victim’s files again. He was from out of town, having been allocated here to work after graduating from university seven years ago. "Could it be someone from his hometown?"
"We’ve checked with local authorities. It’s confirmed that he had no enemies back home."
Li Qiao asked, "Can I take these documents with me? I’d like to go over them carefully."
"Just make sure you keep them safe and don’t reveal them to anyone."
Li Qiao promised, and rushed back to the school to continue her classes. After school, she had a meal in the cafeteria, returned to her dormitory to review the documents. There didn’t seem to be anything suspicious about the people around the victim, which made it all the more suspicious.
Just then, a knock came from outside the door.
"Li Qiao."
It was Nan Chuyi.
Li Qiao opened the door. Nan Chuyi stood there alongside Xue Lingqing. She welcomed them into the room and served them tea.
