Harem God- Dimensional Motel System-Chapter 20: Noisy Night
Chapter 20 - Noisy Night
AWOOOOO!
The howling from the forest didn't stop.
'I know it. I can't just sit back and relax.'
With all the lights coming from this place, it was no surprise it attracted wild animals.
The problem was, if a pack decided to charge in.
And knowing the system? It probably wouldn't lift a finger.
Just to be safe, he opened the online store and bought a metal bat and a heavy-duty flashlight.
It was the only thing he could afford. A basic handgun cost over a thousand EC, and bullets started at 20 EC each.
Pretty much the system's way of telling him to go screw himself.
Stepping outside, Luck scanned the dark forest ahead.
The howling stopped—but now, something else replaced it.
Wooshing sounds, footsteps crushing dry leaves. More than one, and very fast.
Not a good sign when you're in the middle of nowhere.
'I wonder if the animals here are bigger than the ones back home,' he muttered. 'If one of them stands up and start talking, I'm done for.'
Right on cue, glowing eyes lit up behind the bushes—ten of them.
And not a single one looked friendly.
'Is there some kind of death flag trigger in my body? Why does crap like this happen every time I open my mouth?'
At first glance, they looked like ordinary wolves. But their snarls were deeper, fiercer—so loud their jaws drooled thick saliva.
'Damn, anti-rabies must not be a thing around here,' he muttered, gripping the metal bat tightly in his right hand while holding the inactive flashlight in his left.
His eyes narrowed, scanning the pack under the moon's glow. Their bodies were hard to make out, but their glowing eyes stood out too much.
Luck scanned the pack for the biggest wolf—most likely the alpha.
If he took that one down, maybe the rest would scatter.
At least, that's what usually happened in anime.
"Hey, system, just to make sure—I'm not gambling away my life for no reason. If these wolves attack the motel, will you protect me? Can they even get inside? Or do you have some cheat that makes me immortal while I'm here?"
[Negative. The wolves can enter this place and kill the owner.]
"But isn't that weird? This place only has one owner—me. If I die, who's supposed to take over? Pretty sure I don't have any secret kids running around. So what then? You just file for bankruptcy and let the bank take it?"
[Your grandfather slept with tens of thousands of women in his lifetime. Finding a new successor won't be an issue.]
"Wait... what?"
"So, I'm replaceable?"
[Affirmative.]
"Shit, no wonder I don't feel any love from you since day one.
Luck shook his head. This felt more like a test run than being the real owner. Screw up, and game over.
"Do I even get some bonus stats ? Like extra strength, agility, or at least auto-healing if I get bit?"
[Negative]
"Not even a rabies shot? That was free back in my old world!"
[The owner may check the online store for medical supplies.]
"Forget it. You can act empathic all you want, but I know he picked me for a reason. Because I'm the most talented one, right?"
No response. That meant he hit the mark—or at least, that's what he wanted to believe.
Just as he finished speaking, two wolves charged at him.
Luck didn't panic—not even a little.
When the first wolf got close, he flipped on the flashlight, blinding it with the sudden beam.
BANG!
The bat smashed into its head.
Without missing a beat, he swung his blunt weapon sideways, knocking the second wolf down.
Before either could recover, he double-tapped them—hitting their foreheads and finishing the job.
Blood splattered across the floor and coated his bat.
"You guys don't get it. You're not the predators here—I am."
The other wolves hesitated, their snarls fading as they backed off.
[DING!]
[Bonus Mission: Kill six wolves to assert your dominance and stop others from attacking the area.]
[Reward: Based on performance]
"Oh, looks like I can't spare you guys. Don't blame me—blame this motel for being too heartless."
A smile spread across his face as he jumped down the short stairs. He knew they feared him, so he let his guard down—and, just as expected, they took the bait.
The wolves lunged toward him, teeth bared and claws ready.
He didn't just stand there—he ran, keeping just out of reach.
At the store window, he leapt up and landed lightly on the narrow ledge.
The wolves followed, leaping after him—but he was ready.
Each time they got close, he swung his bat hard, striking them down before they could bite.
"Chase me!" He jumped down to the ground, then sprinted outside and lock the main door.
Next, he waited by the open window, ready to strike as the wolves jumped back—hitting them mid-air.
BANG!
BANG!
BANG!
Rinse and repeat.
None of them could get close enough to sink their teeth in.
Forget the alpha—he took down anyone dumb enough to chase him.
Seeing their pack fall one by one, the other wolves scattered, running for safety.
"Hey, where are you running off to? I'm just getting started!" he shouted, adrenaline pumping through his veins.
"Well, that was easy."
No surprise there. Luck outsmarted them all, proving brains and skill beat brute force every time.
'There's no notification?' he wondered.
Looking down at the bloodied floor, he saw the other wolves weren't moving—but they were still barely alive.
With a heavy heart, he decided to end their suffering.
He tried to give them a quick death by smashing their heads, but the bat wasn't exactly made for mercy kills—it took more swings than he preferred.
'Don't get soft. It's kill or be killed. If I was weak, these wolves would already be picking through my organs by now,'
While he was busy smashing the last wolf's head, a gasp came from the corner.
Neve stood there, covering her mouth in disgust.
"I can explain, you see—" he began, but before he could finish, she turned and ran back to her room.
