Greatest Legacy of the Magus Universe-Chapter 830: Quite Observant
Chapter 830: Quite Observant
Aldo Wagner!
So that’s the founder’s name, Adam thought to himself, feeling slightly taken aback.
He looked at the elderly Magus with an inquisitive gaze and couldn’t help but ask, “My Lord, just how were you, or rather the Brotherhood, able to find out about the founder’s origins?”
“Boy, our organization is over three thousand years old,” the elderly Magus began. “That is more than enough time to learn about the founder’s true origins, no matter how small the clues might be.”
Adam’s eyes flashed with a peculiar light.
Great! I finally have a timeline I can work on, he thought.
He then thought of something and asked, “If the organization is so old, why could it not be able to decipher the journals left behind by Lord Wagner?”
The elderly Magus shook his head, sighing in defeat, “Deciphering a language one knows nothing about is a near-impossible task.
“It is like staring at the bones of a once-forgotten beast and trying to guess how it once breathed, walked, or spoke.
“Without context, grammar, or even a hint of shared symbols, every character becomes a mystery, and every word a riddle.
“You don’t know what’s a noun, what’s a verb, or whether what you’re reading is even meant to be read from left to right. It is simply blind exploration.”
Adam felt like what he said made a lot of sense. He also thought of another critical matter and voiced it, “My Lord, I believe… divination magic resulted in failure?”
The elderly man nodded. “Perhaps, Lord Wagner thought that his journals might one day fall into the wrong hands someday, so he left anti-divination arrangements.”
“If so, then how are we, the members of the Brotherhood, supposed to decipher what’s written in those journals?”
Adam couldn’t help but frown.
“That is a question I keep asking myself,” the elderly man revealed a wry smile. “Perhaps, Lord Wagner never intended anyone to read those journals. Perhaps, their contents were deeply personal. But you know how we Magi are—driven by endless curiosity.”
The frown on Adam’s face deepened.
I admit that some of the journal entries were deeply personal to the founder, he thought.
But there were several other entries that spoke about Myrrandor and even hinted at the moon containing a secret to venturing into the Greater Universe…
So then why would the founder not want others to know?
This made him think of another important matter.
He speculated that the Mana Core Magi of the Twilight Brotherhood, or perhaps the entire planet, were aware of the existence of magical civilizations in the Greater Universe, but…
They did not know of a way to leave Tron!
There was only one way to confirm his speculation. He looked at the elderly man and displayed an innocent expression, “My Lord, if the Brotherhood knows of the existence of magical civilizations in the Great Universe—”
“Greater Universe,” the old man corrected him.
“Ah, yes, apologies.” Adam scratched the back of his head awkwardly. “If the organization knows of the magical civilizations in the Greater Universe, then surely it must also know of a way to travel there?”
The elderly Magus remained silent for a long time. With each second that passed, Adam grew more and more confident in his speculation.
Finally, the old man’s answer confirmed his thoughts.
“The knowledge of how to traverse to the Greater Universe has long been lost to the ravages of time.”
Even though he had already expected it, it still came as a great shock to Adam.
Why would the founder not tell his people the way to travel to the Greater Universe?
This means they’re absolutely clueless about the portal on Luna, Adam thought incredulously.
But he still couldn’t understand why the founder would gatekeep this information.
Perhaps, there was something that Adam was unaware of? Something he had looked over?
He couldn’t tell.
The elderly man’s words drifted into his ears, jolting him out of his thoughts, “Why else do you think we have been so lenient in handing over Lord Wagner’s journals to you all this while?”
“…You were hoping I would decipher the contents,” Adam answered in a daze.
The elderly man nodded. “Not just you. Any Agent who requests to study the journals is granted access. Generations of Magi before you have tried and failed to decipher them. All we can do now is hope that one of you younglings succeeds.”
The elderly man displayed a bitter smile, and Adam knew what that meant.
Although the man was standing at the peak of magic in Tron, he was nearing the end of his life.
One day in the future, he would die knowing that there were higher peaks to climb, but he was unable to.
Such was the tragedy of all Mana Core Magi of Tron.
Adam’s heart stirred and he almost wanted to tell the man about the portal on the moon.
No, not now.
Now is not the time.
I must be patient, he thought to himself.
Wait a minute…
Adam suddenly thought of something else and secretly glanced at the elderly man.
If knowledge about anything related to the Greater Universe is so sought after, then how come he believed me when I lied about the things I received in the inheritance?
Adam’s heart turned cold when he thought about it.
There’s only one reason… It has to be!
“My Lord, you…” he called out softly. “Did you use enchantment magic on me again?”
The elderly man’s lips curled into a faint smirk. He replied without even turning to the youth, “Oh, what gave it away?”
This bastard!
I was right not to trust you, Adam screamed inwardly.
“Just a feeling,” he said.
The elderly Magus chuckled, “You are quite observant, boy. Perhaps a bit too observant for your own good.”
Adam could only awkwardly laugh, “Well, now you know I wasn’t lying.”
But inwardly, his heart turned cold. It was only at that moment did he realize the true terror of a Mana Core Magus.
The man had cast a spell on him without him even knowing it!
If it wasn’t for the white lotus, Adam would have already spilled everything.
But thanks to this encounter, he also got to know more about the lotus’s capabilities.
It can protect my mind from the effects of magic from the School of Enchantment, he thought in shock. Even if the spell is cast by someone more powerful than me!
I already knew the white lotus helps me see through illusions.
But this…
I have a strong feeling the white lotus grants me immunity to all forms of spell from the spiritual aspect of magic!
