Futanari System-Chapter 293: The New Moon’s Darkness
Chapter 293 - The New Moon's Darkness
I was torn between going to the front or backing off as nothing had happened yet, and I was getting farther behind on my breeding duties. It was my choice to do these duties, but I also did not feel great about it. I had already decided what I was going to do. I also needed to stop and check out the Crown Princess and see if she had broken in yet. I also should find some time for Zee and my lovers. Asahsi, Trisha, and Betsy were all in the City as was the Lich Taylor. Then there was my succubus and mother, which still made me wince when I thought about it sometimes.
Then, a mana message hit me: "Supreme Commander, I believe we see movement from the Empire." A Staff Sergeant sent me this message, and I turned. I looked out, and my smile grew.
The southern front had been lacking the Empire for a bit. They had tried to bait the people in the trenches to come out and attack. Now it was their bait and switch. In retaliation to them 'backing off' we moved like we were responding to that. What was actually happening was a movement of a lot of people back and forth. We dedicated a lot of the little new carriages that the local humans recently made, and used them to move supplies and troops right back up to the southern front when they were supposed to be empty going to the south.
During the day, they would load up with people and supplies, and at night, they came back with supplies and the people. It was a rotating group of a hundred people with five Succubi using illusion magic to ensure that no one knew what was happening. There was also one more thing they were shipping to the south, and now they were placed perfectly, for hopefully what was going to be the death knell for the Empire to their warfighting effort.
Even if we did this, we could not invade more; we simply did not have the people to do more than loot and burn cities, which would incite the Kingdom of Arlin or the Theocracy, which I knew little about. So, I would stop my people from diving into the depths of the Empire's civilization, plundering it, and making slaves.
I moved and started to pay attention to what was happening on the front, and I could see it now. I looked up into the sky and noticed that it was coming up to dusk, and the Empire's camp in the distance, which they made to look as small as possible, started to move. It was small movements, but they were larger than normal, and I realized instantly this was going to take time.
Slowly, as the sun set upon the world and the darkness settled in, I noticed the new moon was here, and there was no light from it to shine down upon their movements. The light of our fires was making it harder to see them, but our scouts long understood not to sit by the fire. So we waited, and the Empire creeped forward slowly, using all the nighttime they could to close the distance, and to be fair, this was the best time to do it.
Then I heard a mana message from the north making my head snap in that direction. Supreme Commander, The Empire has launched a small-scale skirmish with five A-rankers to assist. The battle is raging here."
The Empire was using its head now and it was really too bad that they were coming into a losing battle. They had finally learned and I was going to give them a black eye that they would never forget as long as their civilization existed.
Or at least I hoped so.
So, my army and I settled in and waited, and we could not see the Empire well. They had gone to ground and were not even walking loudly as they crept closer. Most of the scouts even lost track of them at points, meaning that there was probably something enchanted into their gear to assist, or we were idiots who were waiting for the boogeyman.
Either way, I decided now was the time to start the operation.
I snapped my fingers and turned to the messenger who came to me. "Order all Succubi units to start giving the discussed illusion," I ordered, and the brown Rat-kin messenger ran off. Then I walked to another messenger, a small Cat-kin girl who looked to be no older than fourteen. "Hurry and tell the Elite Soldiers to be ready to fire in the coming hours."
"Yes, Supreme Commander," The Cat-kin saluted and ran off looking like their life mission was at stake.
I watched and waited and wished for the moon.
Then I frowned. A shiver went through me, and I felt my hair stand on end. I felt like something was in my skin.
Tonight might not all go in my favor. Should I do something early? Let the Empire come in deeper to kill more of them? Or do I follow this odd feeling I just got and spring the trap early.
Patience, this could just be pregame jitters and I prepared myself.
Not much longer now.
"Supreme Commander," A mana message came in, "Scout at the south side here. I think I see movement almost at the base of the hill." The first sign that they were almost here came in and I smiled. Any second now, and more mana messages came from the wizards with the scouts, and my smile broadened.
My mana quickly sent out an order to all the messengers around me, "Quickly move and inform all leaders that battle will be here in the next five minutes, like discussed."
Messengers moved and my smile turned into a predator's smile.
Any second now.
Any second now.
