Chapter 2107 - The Mysterious Ringing of a Bell

The man in dark robes had a terrifying presence. He stood amidst a tide of darkness that obscured the curtain of heaven, his imposing aura enveloping everything on all sides.

The Seven Celestial Venerates seemed to dull by comparison.

This is a Primordial Ancestral God my first incarnation consigned to the endless darkness? Su Yi pondered.

He was standing beside the old man, so the dark-robed man’s imposing majesty couldn’t affect him. This kept him safe, but it also prevented him from sensing the dark-robed man’s terrifyingness for himself.

“The Lingyu Dao Monarch is a mysterious expert. They say he’s existed since the earliest days of the Path of the Ancient Gods. He’s like a legend! Thus, no one knows just how powerful his cultivation base is,” Luo Xuanji transmitted to Su Yi. “But it’s common knowledge that he’s Celestial Venerate Burning Wind’s Master, and the Dao-Severing Bone Spear is his personal weapon.”

Su Yi nodded. He wasn’t at all concerned about the Lingyu Dao Monarch’s origins right now. He was more interested in hearing why the old man’s intervention was considered overstepping the rules, and why it risked a backlash from the Laws.

But in the face of the Lingyu Dao Monarch’s threats, the old man just laughed and shook his head.

“You’ve only just brushed up against the threshold of the River of Destiny, and you’ve yet to truly grasp the immeasurable truths of eternity. How could you possibly understand the Laws of the River of Destiny?”

Or, in other words, “Quit trying to use the Laws to threaten me. I understand them far better than you!”

“So, you’ve steeled yourself to walk this path to the very end?” The Lingyu Dao Monarch frowned, his eyes surging with imposing, cold light.

The old man said warmly, “There are greater paths and lesser paths, and evil paths and righteous paths, but the only path I walk is my own. If I want to do something, you cannot stop me. Just call out whoever’s calling the shots behind the scenes.”

This might have seemed like a discussion, but in truth, the old man spoke like a benevolent senior educating a junior with a shallow understanding of the rules.

His demeanor left everyone present stunned. That’s the Lingyu Dao Monarch! A mysterious Primordial Ancestral God! Who’d dare to speak to him like that?

Su Yi’s heart shook. There’s someone behind the Lingyu Dao Monarch, too?

The Lingyu Dao Monarch’s brow furrowed, and an irrepressible hint of a chill appeared on his brow before he burst into laughter. “I don’t know who you are, or how capable you are in your plane of origin not of this spacetime, but here, you’re just a remnant of will. I’d like to see just where you get off talking like that!”

His dark robes billowed around him, and his long silver hair fluttered in the wind. Before his voice had even finished echoing through the air, a raging tidal wave of darkness swept outward.

Kaboom!

The darkness covering the Ancient God Domain undulated like the tides. Wherever it passed, a strange, calamitous aura spread. It was like the onset of a natural disaster.

The inhabitants of the Ancient God Domain suddenly felt deep-seated despair and helplessness.

Even the gods standing across the Plains of Divine Severing felt their hair stand on end, as if they’d been plunged into an icy abyss.

It was just too terrifying!

The darkness was like a giant, invisible hand, obscuring their vital energies and severing their senses. It was as if they’d been instantly transported into an endlessly deep abyss and stripped of all perception of the outside world!

“Go!” The Lingyu Dao Monarch raised his hand and tapped the air.

Boom!

A Dao Sword condensed out of the power of darkness, shattering the fetters of time and space to descend with murderous might.

This slash was just too tyrannical and too mysterious. It was imbued with indescribable, unsurpassed power, as if it could cleave through heaven, earth, and all Daos therein!

Su Yi’s pupils constricted. It wasn’t that this slash was all that deep and lofty, but that the power within it far surpassed the bounds of the Master God Realm. It was to the point that it was difficult to even fathom just how terrifying it was!

But then, the old man suddenly took a step forward.

It was just one step, but it overturned heaven and earth. A beam of clear Dao Light rose into the heavens, piercing the darkness to rise into the firmament.

A stretch of stars manifested beneath the old man’s feet, wrapping around them like boots. With every step he took, these “cosmic boots” carried him forward.

He was walking on stars!

And when he swung his sleeves...

Boom!

As terrifying as the Dao Sword condensed out of the power of darkness was, it now resembled nothing but a falling star. It was swept uncontrollably into the old man’s palm, where it vanished without a trace.

His sleeves contained suns and moons, and whole worlds were hidden in the wrinkles of his palm!

The Lingyu Dao Monarch’s pupils constricted, but then, he snorted coldly, stretched out his hand, and grabbed.

Boom!

The Laws of Darkness came crashing down like a waterfall, sweeping through the sky.

Heaven and earth were thrown into upheaval, as if an age of chaos were descending upon the world. Destructive power surged throughout the Ancient God Domain, and countless lifeforms cried out in terror and fled in panic.

“You don’t know what’s good for you.” The old man shook his head slightly, then swung his sleeve.

Boom!

The endless Laws of Darkness exploded. Boundless clear light swept outward, covering the entire ancient God Domain in a tranquil, auspicious glow. With a swing of his sleeves, he stabilized all of creation

At the same time, the Lingyu Dao Monarch was badly injured and forced ruthlessly backward.

His expression finally shifted. Who is this old man? How could a mere remnant of his will be this powerful?

The Seven Great Celestial Venerates were watching from afar. Chills coursed through them as they imagined what would have happened had the old man struck to kill. All of us would be dead!

“To me!” The Lingyu Dao Monarch stretched out his hand and grabbed.

Clang!

A heaven-shaking impact rang out, and the Dao-Severing Bone Spear whooshed through the air and fell into the Lingyu Dao Monarch’s hand.

The Lingyu Dao Monarch’s aura instantly expanded. He was far stronger than before!

Spear in hand, he flashed through the air, like a bolt of black lightning cleaving through time and space to appear in front of the old man.

Kcch!!

The bone spear brought with it bloody, baleful energy, and it thrust directly at the old man’s forehead. It was unbelievably quick and unbelievably forceful!

The Lingyu Dao Monarch had obviously poured everything he had into this attack. It seemed that it could shatter everything in its path, even the very will of heaven itself!

But then, a large hand appeared out of nowhere and seized the spear by its tip. It couldn’t advance even an inch further!

The Lingyu Dao Monarch’s eyes widened, and his unwavering heart finally shook in a rare loss of composure. How... How is this possible?

“The past is in the past. When I think of all the prominent experts of the Path of the Ancient Gods, I find that you’re among the least self-aware,” sighed the old man.

Before his voice had even finished echoing through the air, he tightened his grip.

Bang!

The old man wrested the Dao-Severing Bone Spear from the Lingyu Dao Monarch’s control.

The Lingyu Dao Monarch flew backward like a kite with its strings cut. Before he’d even hit the ground, he coughed up blood, and his brow knit with agony.

When the spear was first seized, an indescribably tyrannical power of the Yao Path erupted, dealing him massive damage!

Deathly silence ensued. The crowd watched in disbelief. They almost couldn’t accept it. Just who is that old man? And just how high is his cultivation base?

A Primordial Ancestral God had come in person, only for the old man’s remnant will to deal him a massive setback.

Boom!

The darkness receded like waters at low tide. Boundless, clear Dao Light shone like the sun, bathing heaven and earth in its auspicious glow.

The Lingyu Dao Monarch had only just steadied himself on his feet when the old man raised the Dao-Severing Bone Spear.

“Shit!” The Lingyu Dao Monarch looked stricken. Murderous intent enveloped his body, heart, and soul. He couldn’t extricate himself, nor could he flee. He felt as helpless as a condemned prisoner awaiting execution!

But then, a voice like the clear ringing of a bell resounded throughout heaven and earth.

“Please show mercy, Fellow Daoist.”

No one could tell where the voice came from. It just boomed throughout heaven and earth like a thunderclap, as if arising from all sides simultaneously, echoing throughout the ears of everyone present.

Everyone shuddered from head to toe.

Could the owner of that voice be the Lingyu Dao Monarch’s backer? Su Yi’s eyebrows rose.

He and Luo Xuanji were safely behind the old man, so they weren’t affected. Still, try as they might, they couldn’t locate the owner of that voice.

“Since you asked, I naturally have to give you face,” said the old man, a strange light in his eyes. He gently tossed the Dao-Severing Bone Spear away.

The treasure blurred into a beam of light, then returned to its master, landing in the Lingyu Dao Monarch’s grip.

That clear voice resounded once more.

“There are complicated enmities and grudges behind this, but ultimately, this is a contest between me and him. You understand that full well, so why insist on intervening? I’m truly rather displeased.”

The Lingyu Dao Monarch fell silent, as if now that the voice had spoken up, it was no longer his place to speak.

The Celestial Venerates’ hearts quivered in their chests. They had absolutely no idea who the owner of that voice was.

“You ought to resolve the grudge between you and him yourself. Why arrange all this to target him? What need was there to borrow others’ hands?” said the old man, his voice as amiable as ever. “It just makes you seem small-minded.”

Su Yi finally understood. He was the “him” the voice spoke of!

“Strong words, Fellow Daoist.” The speaker laughed. “As I’m sure you know, even if you hadn’t violated the rules to intervene, he would have been just fine. Even if he’d wanted to die, it wouldn’t have been so easy. So why do this? It was entirely unnecessary.”

The voice was valiant and unfettered, with a hint of mockery, as if he were making fun of the old man for not minding his own business.

“There are good people who’ll draw their weapons to help passersby in need even in the mundane world. Why shouldn’t I intervene?” laughed the old man, entirely unperturbed. “Besides, we were once Fellow Daoists. In this incarnation, he’s yet to become a god. How could I possibly let others bully him?”

“Yet to become a god...” That clear voice suddenly sank into silence. A while passed before he continued, his voice conflicted and difficult to read, “Very well. This ends here.”

“Excellent.” The old man smiled and nodded.

“Lingyu, leave, and take your people with you,” said the voice. “This no longer has anything to do with you.”

“But, Your Eminence, if I give up now...” The Lingyu Dao Monarch hesitated, then continued solemnly, “I’ll miss the...”

“Come back!” the voice repeated.

The Lingyu Dao Monarch stiffened, then lowered his head in assent. “Understood!” He waved to the Seven Great Celestial Venerates. “Follow me!”

Celestial Venerate Burning Wind said hurriedly, “But Master, that man just took the four taboo divine swords...”

“We’re leaving!” The Lingyu Dao Monarch said icily.

Celestial Venerate Burning Flame’s heart shook, and he no longer dared hesitate. He and the other Celestial Venerates followed the Lingyu Dao Monarch away.

When the distant onlookers saw this, they couldn’t help but exchange glances. They’re leaving, just like that?
