Chapter 2086 - Maddened Divine Awareness
Su Yi glanced at Feng Wuji and said, “I really don’t get it. You’re an unparalleled divine son. Why disregard your seniors’ opinions and refuse to become my enemy?”
Feng Wuji sighed. “I just know that throughout the ages, everyone whom the Master Gods have targeted has perished—everyone but you. Instead, those who attacked you are no longer among us. I’m still young, and my words carry little weight, but I want to live a while longer. How could I possibly choose to become your enemy? How would that be any different from knowingly drinking poison? I’m not sick of living yet!”
He answered as if it were all perfectly obvious. Su Yi couldn’t even argue.
Bi Kongliu listened from the sidelines. He couldn’t help but sigh to himself. Feng Wuji is quite talented in his own way!
Su Yi asked with great interest, “And what if I kill the Rahu Yao Ancestor one day? What would you do then?”
Feng Wuji froze, briefly stunned, then shrugged. “If he dies, he dies. Deaths are an inevitable part of the competition for the Grand Dao.”
“....”
“Of course, I’ll do everything in my power to convince the ancestor not to oppose you. If he refuses to listen, I’ll just draw a line between us and be done with it.” Feng Wuji shrugged. “As for getting revenge... Hah! I’m not stupid. I wouldn’t even consider it unless I was strong enough to completely crush you. Otherwise, I’d just be throwing my life away.”
Su Yi couldn’t help but take another look at Feng Wuji. He didn’t ask any more questions.
This was neither cowardice nor petty cleverness; this was wisdom! Only a fool would underestimate someone like Feng Wuji.
“Fellow Daoist, look. That’s this hidden realm’s opportunity to achieve divinity.” Feng Wuji gestured into the chaos-permeated landscape. A piercing silver light flashed on and off within the chaos.
“All of us tried to acquire it earlier, but all of us failed and returned in defeat,” Feng Wuji explained at top speeds. “That’s because an extremely terrifying will exists amidst the chaos. Without its approval, you can forget about acquiring that chance at divinity, no matter who you are.”
With that, he sighed in apparent melancholy.
“Have you tried?” Su Yi looked at Bi Kongliu.
“No.” Bi Kongliu shook his head with a self-deprecating laugh. “I was outnumbered and excluded. I didn’t even get the chance.”
“Come on and try now. I’ll go with you.” Su Yi made up his mind, then proceeded into the chaos.
Bi Kongliu was briefly stunned.
Feng Wuji frantically indicated for him to hurry, then transmitted, “Dumbass! Can’t you see that Fellow Daoist Su plans to help you achieve divinity? Hurry after him! A chance like this is worth more than eight lifetimes of accumulated karmic merit!”
Bi Kongliu shivered. Is that really what’s happening?
For a moment, he dared not believe it.
Feng Wuji was at a loss for words. How could this guy be so dense?
“Hurry up,” Su Yi called without even turning his head.
Bi Kongliu dared not hesitate any further. He immediately hurried after Su Yi.
When Feng Wuji couldn’t help but look a little jealous. Bi Kongliu had been brutalized earlier, but the favor and care he was receiving now far outweighed his misfortune!
Should I do a little something so that Su Yi might grant me his favor, too? Feng Wuji pondered to himself.
...
The distant chaos churned like the tides, emanating rumbling and booming.
When Su Yi first walked into it, an indescribable pressure bore down on him, but when he circulated his cultivation base, he neutralized it completely.
Still, the further in he went, the greater and more terrifying the pressure. Even Su Yi was unwittingly stunned. This pressure wasn’t one whit inferior to that of a Fortune Realm Greater God!
But then, a raspy voice rang out. “You might be powerful, but you and I are not connected by fate. Leave! Do not bring misfortune upon yourself!”
Su Yi gazed into the distant chaos. There, he saw an indistinct figure seated cross-legged, his face haggard and his hair and beard scraggly.
That bundle of silver light hovered above the man’s head, flickering in and out of view.
Su Yi instantly understood. This was the god whose corpse had resulted in this hidden realm, or rather, a remnant of his will. Naturally, that bundle of silver light was the Godhead he’d left behind!
“I’m not interested in your Godhead.” Su Yi gestured to Bi Kongliu. “But I think this chance at divinity rather suits him.”
“Him?” The man snorted coldly, then sneered. “I watched as he was bullied and humiliated earlier, so I’ll be blunt. He’s too weak! He’s in no way worthy of inheriting my Dao!”
Bi Kongliu was instantly ashamed and angry. He took a deep breath and said, “In the competition for the Grand Dao, what do momentary victories and defeats matter? I admit that I’m weak now, but one day, I’ll far surpass those people!”
He spoke with staunch assurance, but the man just said coldly, “If you’re a weakling, you should just admit it. This lofty one disdains no one more than empty boasters like you.”
Bi Kongliu’s expression darkened. A powerful sense of humiliation filled his heart, and he said no more. He just tightly clenched his fists.
“Why haven’t you left yet? Must you seek out your own humiliation?” The man furrowed his brow with impatience.
“He doesn’t need to succeed your Dao, and it isn’t your place to disparage his Dao,” Su Yi said calmly. “I said this chance at divinity suits him, and no one can argue with me, not even you.”
Bi Kongliu froze, stunned. Waves of emotion crashed through him.
The man glowered, so angry that he laughed. “What a brazen little pipsqueak! You...”
He’d only just said this when his words came to an abrupt halt. He’d just seen the chaos-like bundle of divine flames floating above Su Yi’s palm, scattering an inscrutable rain of light.
Whoosh!
The entire stretch of chaos shook violently.
The silver bundle of firelight hovering above the man’s head quivered as if petrified with fright!
“The Epoch Spark!” the man couldn’t help but blurt. Terror and dread were written all over his face.
“Do you still think I’m just boasting?” asked Su Yi.
The man quivered from head to toe, then slumped in despondency. “So many years have passed. I didn’t think you'd... return alive...”
Bi Kongliu gaped in astonishment and bewilderment. It seems the man recognizes Su Yi’s origins, and that the realization has plunged him into the pits of despair! But why? I don’t get it. It doesn’t make any sense!
Su Yi was a bit surprised too. Don’t tell me that this guy met my first incarnation?
“No wonder you aren’t interested in my Godhead. So, it’s you... Haha! I wouldn’t have thought that I’d get to meet you, the one who dominated and suppressed the entirety of the past, before my remnant will dissipate!” The man rose, threw back his head, and laughed in apparent madness. “I have only myself to blame for my earlier foolishness. I chose a path of no return. Otherwise... how could I have wound up in such a state?”
His voice was full of grief and regret.
Suddenly, the man turned, staggering on his feet, and looked at Bi Kongliu. His gaze was suddenly heated.
“Your Excellency, is this... is this the inheritor you chose for me? Excellent! Absolutely wonderful! So long as he inherits my Godhead, he’ll have effectively taken up my mantle. I... I ought to celebrate if anything!”
He seized the bundle of silver firelight in a frenzy, then passed it to Bi Kongliu. “Take it! Quickly, take it! It’s yours, all of it!”
Bi Kongliu’s hair stood on end. The man seemed to have completely lost his rationality and gone off the deep end. freewёbnoνel.com
Su Yi furrowed his brow. It seems his death really did have something to do with my first incarnation.
“As I said, he isn’t your successor,” said Su Yi. “He just happened upon this place by chance. The same is true for me. Simply put, we aren’t here for you. I’m afraid that you’re just flattering yourself.”
The man stiffened, then stood there as if he’d been struck by lightning. A while passed before he straightened his spine, quivering all the while, and plastered a smile on his face. “That doesn’t matter. I’m honored that Your Excellency has taken an interest in my Godhead, and I no longer have any regrets. At the very least... my Epoch Laws will be passed on.”
His voice trailed off, increasingly feeble.
In the end, he flung himself to his knees and slammed his head into the dirt, tears streaming down his cheeks. “Right and wrong, success and failure—all are empty in the end. The past is in the past. Your Excellency, I submit! Thank you for finding a successor for my Godhead!”
Whoosh!
The man crumbled into ash, then dissipated. Even in the last moments before his death, he kept his head lowered to the ground.
Bi Kongliu stood there in a daze, completely bewildered, yet somehow incomparably shaken.
“I can see he resolved a lingering regret,” said Su Yi.
He was somewhat bewildered too, but he could roughly guess that the man had been one of his first incarnation’s enemies, and moreover, that he viewed his first incarnation with incomparable dread. Otherwise, his attitude would never have changed so starkly upon recognizing Su Yi.
It even seemed entirely possible that the man had died at his first incarnation’s hands.
Still, the way he behaved before his remnant will dissipated made it clear that his last wish was for someone to succeed his Godhead. That was why he went so mad with delight when Su Yi ordered him to give his Godhead to Bi Kongliu. He took that as Su Yi helping him ensure that his Grand Dao would live on!
“Fellow Daoist Su, was he... was he really insane?” murmured Bi Kongliu.
“Who knows?” Su Yi gestured to that bundle of light. “But in any case, that Godhead is comparable to a first-level Epoch Fragment. Take it, and just ignore everything that guy said. You’re in charge of your own path, and no one can change that.”
Bi Kongliu was instantly a bit flustered. Part of him hadn’t really expected Su Yi to just give him this first-level Godhead. After all, this was the type of good fortune that divine children longed for even in their dreams!
It was just too unexpected, to the point that he felt as if he were dreaming!
Su Yi couldn’t help but find this amusing. You’re a divine son of the Bifang Divine Race. Don’t you think this is an overreaction?
This encounter had deepened his understanding of the Epoch Spark. Here in the Path of the Ancient Gods, this Taboo Treasure obviously had numerous wondrous applications, many of them still unknown.
For instance, in the City of the Beginning, he’d used it to sense the three divine artifacts’ auras and connect with them. And now, in this hidden realm in the Deification Star Sea, the Epoch Spark let him intimidate the Godheads of fallen gods!
“Don’t just stand there.” Su Yi cast aside his scattered thoughts, put away the Epoch Spark, and turned to leave this chaotic stretch of heaven and earth.
“Uh, yes! Got it!” Bi Kongliu reacted as if awakening from a dream. He hurriedly grasped the bundle, then followed Su Yi.
Even he didn’t notice it, but this time, he followed Su Yi, not like a peer, but like a junior accompanying a senior. He was now subconsciously awed and reverent.
