Chapter 223 - Ch 223 : Fairy Tail B

With only two days left until the start of the Grand Magic Games, Noel finally returned to Fairy Tail.

However, before he could do anything else, he was mysteriously dragged into the guild by Makarov.

The same treatment was given to Mira, Laxus, Gajeel, and Juvia, who were also called into the guild hall.

After Makarov's explanation, they all roughly understood his idea—he wanted them to form a second team, Fairy Tail Team B, to participate in the Grand Magic Games.

Since the tournament did not restrict guilds from entering multiple teams, Makarov planned to exploit this loophole to increase Fairy Tail's chances of winning.

"You've got to be kidding me. Who wants to be part of this circus act?"

Gajeel was the first to object after hearing Makarov's proposal.

Laxus, though not entirely against competing, was still dissatisfied with the arrangement.

"I don't mind participating, but I have a problem with this 'Team B' setup."

"I don't particularly care either way, but I also don't see the necessity of this arrangement," Noel replied indifferently.

Seeing their lukewarm reactions, Makarov wasn't surprised—he had already anticipated this and had a trump card prepared.

"Then let's do it this way," Makarov said casually.

"Whichever team wins can order the losing team around for a whole day, with no restrictions."

The room fell into a brief silence.

"Completely unrestricted..." A gleam appeared in Laxus' eyes.

"Ordering them around..." Gajeel blinked.

"This sounds kind of fun," Mira said with a dreamy expression.

Juvia, on the other hand, seemed to be lost in thought, her entire face turning red.

"Being able to order them around... which means..."

Seeing how the others were getting excited, Noel let out a small sigh.

He could already guess what these guys were thinking, and he silently mourned for Team A in his heart.

However, deep down, he wasn't completely against the idea either.

After all, this was for the guild—to help Fairy Tail return to its former glory as soon as possible.

In the end... despite everyone having their own motives, the result remained the same—Fairy Tail's Team B was officially formed and decided to participate in the Grand Magic Games.

....................

Domus Crocus

This was a town filled with mages and tourists, as well as the venue for the Grand Magic Games festival.

At the center of the town stood the castle of the King of Fiore, Mercurius, also known as the Palace of Light. To the west, atop a mountain, was the grand arena where the Grand Magic Games would take place—Domus Flau.

"Domus Crocus, huh? It's even more bustling than it was seven years ago." Noel observed one of Fiore's most famous cities.

Although he had visited many times before while on missions, that was seven years ago.

Since returning from Tenrou Island, this was his first time back here.

Which meant...

"You got lost, didn't you?" Mira smiled and mercilessly exposed Noir's current predicament.

Noel sighed, covering his forehead in frustration before nodding helplessly.

He wasn't exactly bad with directions, but with how much Domus Crocus had changed, trying to navigate using the old routes from seven years ago had naturally led him astray.

"Well, since Master is handling the registration for us, we might as well take this chance to look around. Besides, weren't we planning to give Team A a little surprise? This way, we won't accidentally run into them too soon," Gajeel shrugged, completely unfazed by getting lost.

The others also had no objections.

"Speaking of which, who exactly is on Team A?" Noel suddenly asked as if he had just remembered something.

Since he was dragged away by Makarov as soon as he returned to the guild, he had no idea who the members of Fairy Tail Team A were—though he could probably guess a few.

"The five members are—Erza, Natsu, Gray, Lucy, and Ed," Mira immediately answered.

"I see. That really is the best lineup available, aside from us and Gildarts," Noel nodded in agreement.

"Forget about that boring stuff," Laxus frowned and said.

"By the way, what exactly is the format of the Grand Magic Games? Is it just battles, or something else?"

Mira shook her head and replied, "That's still unclear. The competition changes every year, and past events have shown no clear pattern. As for the rules, while there are a lot of details, the three most important ones are: first, the guild master is not allowed to participate; second, participants must have a guild emblem; and lastly, contestants must return to their designated lodgings before midnight."

"Midnight, huh? Then we still have plenty of time," Noel commented after glancing at the large clock tower in the city.

"Has our lodging been confirmed?" Juvia asked Mira.

"Yes, everything's set. But I'm a little curious about that third rule," Mira said thoughtfully.

Noel shook his head.

"No need to overthink it. If it's a rule, it must be related to the competition. We'll find out soon enough."

"That's true."

"Alright then, let's split up for now, but be sure to arrive at the lodging 15 minutes early," Laxus instructed before vanishing in a flash of lightning.

"He's as decisive as ever," Noel chuckled before gesturing to the others.

Juvia and Gajeel went their separate ways, while Mira remained by Noel's side.

With the Grand Magic Games just around the corner, the streets were noticeably busier than usual.

The lively atmosphere was almost like that of a grand festival, and the excitement in the air was contagious, gradually lifting Noel's spirits.

"You know, it's been a long time since we last went out shopping like this," Mira said as she gazed at the bustling streets, her eyes narrowing slightly with a gentle smile.

Noel nodded lightly. "Not since the Harvest Festival, I think."

"Sometimes, I wonder... how nice it would be if we could just continue living peacefully like this forever," Mira sighed.

"Things in life rarely go as we wish," Noel responded quietly, a hint of wistfulness in his eyes.

"All we can do is cherish every moment we have."

"Yeah... you're right." Mira softly echoed his words.

Her slender, delicate fingers slowly inched closer to Noel's arm, almost imperceptibly.

As the gap between them shortened, her heartbeat quickened.

Finally, her fingers brushed against Noel's palm, and with a slight squeeze, she held his hand.

"Hm?" Feeling his hand being grasped, Noel turned his head and looked at Mira in confusion.

"What's wrong?"

For some reason, Mira's face turned a faint shade of red, and she lowered her head slightly.

Hearing Noel's question, she stammered a little in response, "It's just... there are too many people around... To avoid getting separated, this is probably for the best."

"That makes sense," Noel nodded in agreement, accepting her explanation without a second thought.

After all, in such a crowded place, the chances of getting lost were indeed quite high.

Seeing Noel's natural and unassuming expression, Mira let out a quiet sigh of relief—but at the same time, she couldn't help feeling a little disappointed.

"So dense... Idiot."
