Extra's POV: My Obsessive Villainous Fiancee Is The Game's Final Boss-Chapter 247: Who’s Winning?
"Are you alright?"
Elias looked up from his seat to see Thorn staring at him. Standing behind him were Ren and Lilith.
They all had a slightly surprised expression on their face and it was understandable. They'd all finished their meal and were about to leave, but Elias hadn't even noticed.
"Oh, yeah. Sorry." He nodded, pasting a smile on his face. "Just lost in my thoughts."
He stood up just as Thorn opened his mouth to say something. "Let's go."
They stared strangely at him knowing something was up, but let it go.
As they walked out of the inn, Elias cursed in the privacy of his mind. This isn't how things were supposed to go.
Right from the moment he'd become a Knight, he knew what he was supposed to do. His orders were clear.
Guard this section of the estate.
Guard Lord Underwood.
Guard Lady Lilith.
He knew what he was. He knew his job. He guarded others, and he took pride in what he did.
But right now, he was lost. He didn't even know what he was supposed to do anymore.
What kind of guard was he? Being deep in thought when he should be guarding. He should be constantly alert, checking for dangers.
But when even the people you guarded could see the danger that was coming three days before you did and take care of it themselves, you become less a guard and more a decoration.
His eyes flicked up to everybody's backs. This was how it always felt like. They were all ahead of him and he was behind them, staring at their backs.
They all knew their roles, but he'd lost his.
Sometimes, he wished for the days before they'd left House Underwood. At least then, he had the semblance of a job.
He'd always known that Lilith was stronger than him. Hell, she was stronger than everybody. But he still had something to do.
But now, it felt like she was guarding him and not the other way around.
All through their adventure down in Elnoria, he'd felt useless. Yes, Ren had used him to burn the bound up infected. But that only made him feel like a glorified flint.
And even right now, two months after everything had ended, he still felt the same.
"I can't believe we're back here and we can't even visit home." Thorn said as they walked down the streets of the port town, sniffing at the smell of the nearby sea. "Makes me feel a little bit sad."
"Home's all the way up north." Ren said without looking back. "We're as far away from home as we could be without leaving Albion."
After they'd destroyed the Red Plague, they'd made their way back to Albion, heading straight for Steadfast, the capital city. And of course, they'd see the army as they traveled.
Then, they'd heard a few things that led them down south to where they were now.
"Who do you think will win?" Lilith asked, curiosity filling her voice. "King Kane has an impressive army, but you all saw what the new Elnorian army could do."
"Kane's definitely winning." Ren said. "King Mikael's dead. Elnoria's stuck with a new, young, and most importantly, inexperienced king."
"They're also just coming out of a devastating war with the Creation Church. The Albion army on the other hand is fresh. There's no way for Kane to lose."
"So, we're getting a bigger kingdom. That's… nice." Thorn nodded.
"For Kane? Definitely nice. He gets more taxes, and his name is written in history as the king who broke the lock around Albion."
"But for the rest of the nobles?" Ren shrugged. "Not so much."
"Why not?" Lilith frowned. "Wouldn't that mean no more war with Elnoria? Since they're now part of us?"
"Nope." Ren chuckled. "There'll still be war, but of a different kind."
"Albion and Elnoria are two nations with their own culture and beliefs. Merging them together won't be easy and the people will have to suffer for it."
"Both kingdoms have fought and died at the hand of the other, and so there'll be bad blood between the two sets of people. Their culture would clash, leading to even more bad blood."
"Elnoria having to adapt to new currency, Albion disdain for cramped and closed cities, and even the presence and lack of religion. It won't be easy."
"And then, there's the war reserved specifically for the nobles." Ren glanced back at them and Elias blinked.
"What war?" He asked.
This was classic Ren. He somehow had more knowledge than all three of them combined.
Elias didn't know where Ren had gotten all his knowledge from, but he couldn't help but wish he knew just as much. Then, he won't be as useless as he currently is.
"Think about it." Ren turned the corner, with the rest of them following behind him.
The smell of fish was much stronger as they got closer to the docks, the foot traffic increasing. Seagulls flew overhead, dotting the sky above.
They stepped to the side as a group of men pushed a wagon down the road, yelling for everyone to get out of the way.
"Albion now has access to two new sources of power." Ren watched the wagon pass before continuing on his way. "Bloodbinding and Resonance magic."
"With Albion in charge of both kinds of power, what would King Kane do? Simple. He'd restrict it to the nobility and the Knights."
"Anyone who can use Resonance magic would be branded Knights and must be affiliated to a noble family. Or they'd be eliminated. Giving power to the common people is just asking for a revolt."
"And that is when the power war would begin." freēnovelkiss.com
"The Elnorian nobles hold Resonance magic, and the Albion nobles holds Bloodbinding. Everyone wants to wield both. What do you think this would result in?"
"Oh." Thorn said quietly.
They all could understand. Alliances would form and enemies would form even faster.
There would be a lot of covert deaths and a few public ones. The king would even be forced to intervene.
Blood would flow.
"We're here." Ren said brightly, drawing everyone out of their thoughts.
There they were, standing before the large pier of one of Albion's smaller port towns.
"What becomes of the Albion nobility is none of our business." Ren said brightly. "We're here for something of much greater importance."
"The rumors?" Lilith raised a brow.
"Yes, my beautiful fiancee." Ren grinned. "The dreadful rumors… about monsters in the deep."
