Diary of a Dead Wizard-Chapter 412 : Joining
The presence of Gorsa in front of Saul brought a significant sense of pressure.
This feeling was usually carefully restrained by Gorsa. Otherwise, no apprentice could face the Tower Master directly.
However, when a crack appeared in Gorsa's chest, especially when only half of Kongsha's face showed up, Saul instantly felt as if a mountain was pressing on him, making it hard for him to breathe.
Fortunately, when Gorsa finally closed his chest and began to speak again, the pressure finally dissipated.
On the ground, Saul’s shadow had not yet returned.
"Do you want to know about Haywood's transformation? Let me tell you."
Saul then raised his eyes.
Although he was unsure of the other’s attitude, he knew he could not remain silent when the master asked a question.
"Master, I found this soul in the interlayer. It claims to be Haywood from more than ten years ago... so I want to confirm its true identity."
Saul tried to make his curiosity sound reasonable.
The fish said he was Haywood, but Haywood was clearly in the adjacent first warehouse, studying the newly acquired Soul-Devouring Mire potion.
Saul felt that the fish’s identity was questionable, so it seemed reasonable to interrogate him, right?
Then, Saul heard Gorsa let out a light sigh, "He is indeed Haywood."
Saul immediately widened his innocent eyes.
Gorsa continued speaking, "But he is only part of Haywood, or rather, a segment of time from Haywood."
Gorsa slightly closed his eyes, "Haywood, Ivan, Kongsha—they all underwent adaptive modifications for the resurrection experiment. Unfortunately, except for Kongsha, the experiments for the other two ended in failure, and their corresponding resurrection plans were suspended. Only Kongsha’s modification succeeded, but it was... humph!"
Gorsa clearly expressed his dissatisfaction with Kongsha.
Saul knew that this modification had led Kongsha to resent Gorsa and made Gorsa completely disappointed in Kongsha.
As for the reason, it was probably because one felt forced while the other felt the valuable experimental result had been wasted.
"As for Ivan’s modification, you just heard. His soul has gone out of control, but fortunately, there is no contagiousness; he has just lost most of his consciousness. I’ve kept him in the Wizard Tower's interlayer, and at night, he will come out on his own. But most of the time, he remains quiet. If one day he recovers his mind, he might become my student again."
When talking about Ivan, Gorsa’s tone became warm again.
"As for Haywood, his transformation experiment also failed, but fortunately, the pollution was controlled before it spread. However, his soul did undergo irreversible contamination. To preserve his life, I and a few others cut out that part of his soul and isolated it in the interlayer, allowing the Eyes to watch over it. From then on, Haywood lost the memory of that period. He was also forced to change his original promotion plan, which is why he is still a Third Rank apprentice."
Gorsa's eyes curved slightly, "As a result, you released that contaminated memory. Fortunately, you didn't immediately take him to find Haywood. Otherwise, I would have lost another obedient student."
So that’s how it is?
No wonder Haywood has strong aptitude and willpower but still hasn’t been promoted.
Then, was the reason that none of the apprentices had been promoted in these years because of something similar?
Had they been delayed by the resurrection experiments?
"Sorry, Master." If it weren’t for Gorsa suddenly showing up, Saul would have seriously considered showing the fish to Haywood.
Saul wondered how Gorsa would punish the other warehouse manager if he lost a warehouse manager due to something caused by another warehouse manager.
"No need to apologize." Gorsa shook his head, "You’ve helped me discover a flaw in the interlayer. Looks like I need to find a different place to store him."
Gorsa looked up at Saul, "The final outcomes for the three of them are all failures, and this has made me start to reflect."
"Apprentices are not magic materials. Recklessly modifying them according to my wishes will only backfire. Even if there’s a rare case of success, heh... it will fail because they themselves are unhappy. So, when I met you, I only asked you to study the soul and focus on the bigger picture, without intervening in your specific learning, to avoid you becoming the next Ivan or Kongsha."
"Fortunately, not only are you exceptionally talented, but you are also quite intelligent. You have finally carved out your own path. Hmm, in the past ten or so years, you are the only apprentice who has been promoted. It seems life at the Wizard Tower is too peaceful."
Saul thought to himself, "Is life at the Wizard Tower really that peaceful? But... doesn’t the Tower Master know why no apprentices have been promoted for so many years?"
While Saul was thinking, he suddenly heard Gorsa mumbling vaguely, "But it doesn’t matter."
Gorsa threw a piece of paper at Saul, "I’ve already researched the rejection delaying potion you gave me earlier. Recently, have you been participating in experiments at Gudo's laboratory?"
Saul nodded repeatedly, “I and... Instructor Gudo's students are studying the problem of reducing the damage caused by adhesives to souls." ƒreewebηoveℓ.com
Saul deliberately didn’t mention Keli’s name to avoid Gorsa’s attention.
Gorsa clearly didn’t care about other apprentices. After hearing this, he nodded slightly, "Starting tomorrow, you will also join the research on the Blue Water Soul Potion. I’ve already spoken to Rum and Kaz. All related experiments on the Blue Water Soul will be open to you."
"Do an experiment on the compatibility between the rejection delaying potion and the Blue Water Soul. If you can achieve the effects of both potions simultaneously, it will buy more time for Yura."
To extend the time that the soul and vessel can stay combined by merging the effects of two potions?
If the Blue Water Soul potion itself is problem-free, that might be possible.
Unfortunately, Saul instinctively felt that the Blue Water Soul potion not only had a problem but a big one!
However, participating in the Blue Water Soul experiment was exactly what Saul wanted!
Although he had already brought Byron back, Byron still didn’t know why Yura had taken action against him.
Or rather, the real reason Yura wanted to kill him was to hide someone?
During their escape in the interlayer, Saul and Byron had discussed how both the gray matter and Blue Water Soul contained impurities that seemed to harbor evil thoughts. This could alleviate some abnormal conditions Yura was facing.
Upon learning this, Saul’s first thought was that the real goal of the resurrection experiment was not resurrection.
Yura’s need to hide it meant that this experiment was not a good thing for those involved in it.
If Yura was behind this and was actually working for the Tower Master, then Saul had to prepare a backup plan while preparing for the resurrection experiment.
If it was someone else...
The Wizard Tower might be about to face a terrifying storm!
Saul didn’t want to wait for the storm to come.
The storm had already hit Byron, but Saul, as a participant in the resurrection experiment (and possibly a backup material), had definitely entered the eye of the storm.
After the temporary calm, there could be an enormous crisis. He had to act first and get a handle on the situation.
Saul looked up, his voice firm as he spoke to Gorsa, "Master, don’t worry. I will seriously cooperate with Mentor Rum and Kaz in the fusion testing experiments."
