Claimed By A Dragon Prince-Chapter 74: Darkling Nest
Chapter 74: Darkling Nest
Suddenly, the ground began to shake, and several darkling dragons emerged from the dead forest surrounding them. There were at least ten of them, outnumbering them 10 to 2. "Dimitri, I’m not sure how we should handle this....." Lily was scared and could fight anything, but this was pushing it.
Dimitri, however, needed to get his mate out of this, as they could both end up dead. The just as the darkling dragons were about to attack Sasha came flying in laying down a line of fire over the darkling dragons facing Lily. Sasha did it again, and they finally ran, some trying to snap at Sasha as she passed over them, one almost caught her tail. "Sasha!"
Lily went to reach for her, but Dimitri held her back for a moment, then ran through the opening the fire drake made for them. Not wasting any time, he shifted on the fly, taking Lily with him into the air. "Wait! Look!" He stopped to see that they weren’t pursuing them. In fact, they sounded like they were crying out in pain. He tried to drag her away, but something inside Lily told her that they needed help.
"I think they need our help, Dimitri." Lily went to move back toward them when she felt herself being lifted by a claw. *WE can figure that out later. Right now, we need to get a safe distance before they decide to change their minds and charge us again.* Two of the small ones tried to come to them, but Sasha flew over again, laying another line of fire in front of them, preventing the creatures from coming any closer.
They continued to cry out to her as Dimitri got them into the air, flying away from the group of darklings. Lily still had the strong urge to go back and heal them, but trying to tell Dimitri that at this moment would be impossible. She knew there was something else going on and it had to do with his brother’s rotting egg shell and possible corpse.
They went south this time finding a cleaner area with more plant life. Finding a place to land Lily takes a flying leap off him, pack still on her back. He shifted as his cloths came flying at him from a pissed off woman. "I get that you wanted to save me, but as I have said in the past I don’t need saving."
"You had no idea what those darklings would do to you and whats worse you would have let them! I had to get you out of there for your own safety, even from yourself. Now lets make camp for the night." He went to walk up to her when she stepped back from him. "I have taken care of myself my whole life, Sure I have gotten hurt and almost died a few times, but at the same time my instincts have never been wrong. Build your own camp. I need some space from you."
The shocked look on Dimitri’s face showed just how much he didn’t know he screwed up. "I can’t just let you...." The look on Lily’s face told him he would be dead by morning if he didn’t let her go. "Follow me and I’ll make sure you can’t find me. I am more then capable of taking care of myself. Goodnight." She pulled off his pack from her pack setting it on the ground and walking into the forest.
He didn’t realize what he had done and Lily wasn’t going to deal with the male dominance bulls*t that he was going to try and lay on her. She had never relied on someone that way and after being around her for over a month she thought it would have should. *Maybe now he’ll understand just what kind of person I am. Distance makes the heart grow fonder, and all that jazz."
Dimitri watched her walk into the forest not chasing her when ever instinct told him to drag her back and assert his dominance on her. But that wouldn’t have the effect he wanted to have on her. She wasn’t used to working with someone and loving them at the same time. It was a hard balance and even with family she had no give because of her childhood.
He could still sense her close by as he moved to grab his pack off the ground. He knew he messed up, but he was still finding out about the ups and downs in her personality. They were still new to each other so he hoped she would give him some consolations with his behavior. He only meant to keep her safe, not stop her from helping those creatures.
Even he could tell that they were crying out to her and if she had went to them he wasn’t sure she would have made it out alive. Especially considering the previous attacks on the dragon city. *It was odd that they attacks the places they did.* Thinking about the attacks they had all happened in places he had been recently been at as well as Lily.
It was hard to tell if they were after her or him, but investigating the toxin might shed some light on what was happening now. Then finding the remains of his brother was surprising in itself. Mother was supposed to have disposed of his body properly, but it seems there was someone else at work here.
His mother was a goddess herself and knew that leaving remains from any god could be detrimental. And if his theory and assumption are right this could be worse then just a discarded corpse. If Vestis could find a way to hurt Dimitri and push him out of Lily’s life that would play more into his plans then anything.
Now all he had to do was make it up to his mate and hopefully she had some humility herself and see he was only thinking of her well being. Setting up in one of the tall trees he posts up watching the smoke came up from the tree line where his mate was camped for the night.
He reached for their bond following the mind link telling her one thing. *Goodnight, my love.*
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Dragon King looked out from his office after looking at the request list his son sent him from the Wolf territory. That stupid wolf king had neglected his people and now they were turning on him without a second thought. Then to find out that the eldest daughter of the wolf clan royalty was banished and married off was just baffling.
He knew the wolf king was an idiot from the first time they met as young men, but he never thought Charlotte would choose this fool. She was always smart, but spoiled. Which led him to believe there was a deal made between them. The problems with the clans and the poison spreading through the lands was all about to come to a head.
His queen walked in at that moment walking over to him. "Have you found our son or is that look just from the days work?" She tried to sound concerned but in a lot of ways he choose her for the money just like the wolf king choose his bride. He always kept his queen at arms length knowing she was a force to recon with. Grabbing her hand he kissed it showing his usual affection for her.
"Just the day works. That wolf king is killing his people and they are quick to move to a better ruler. If i didn’t know better, I’d swear he’s too overly focused on trying to get Lily back. I know she’s special, but to ignore your duty as a king is just barbaric." The queen listened knowing these things were happening. Her spies had informed her and read most of the letters delivered to the king.
"He was never the brightest creature out there, but if those people weren’t important enough for him to care for is it his fault they are dying out?" She didn’t want to seem too against what he was saying, and posing the fault back on the people who were devastated by the wolf king’s decisions. "I mean, if they really needed help why didn’t they present their case to the wolf clan court? That is how most matters are taken care of."
While he didn’t like the way she said this, the queen still had a good point. There was too many smoke and mirrors going on and not enough answers. "I will be long shortly, my dear. I am sure you have had a long day as well. Go soak in the springs off our rooms. I may join you shortly." He eyes lit up hearing this as she leaned down kissing him then walking to the door shaking her ass at him trying to entice him.
The one person he wanted to see lived in a temple and was being treat from a darkling attack, She was mostly healed, but feeling her skin and having her touch him was what he wanted. Taking a a potion out from his desk ha downs the whole thing needing it to block his dragon and take the queen since the only face he saw was the goddess who stole his heart.
