Calamity of Tomorrow-Chapter 498 - 497 Survey Residues
Qiu Xingze and Yan Shan had always been perplexed by Gu Letian's actions.
The other party sporadically interfered here and there, and his actions appeared unconnected, with no discernible purpose.
Yet he possesses an incredibly cryptic power; every time his actions had widespread impacts, creating various distortions that spread madness and panic, just like what he directly caused this time in Nanshan City.
The two continued walking forward, the light in the air seeming to grow increasingly dim.
Every few meters, they could spot lines of distorted writing on the walls.
"Stay alert! The deviant is among us! Report any abnormalities immediately."
"At the end of reason lies madness, at the end of wisdom lies folly."
"Deviant sightings reported, please do not go outside."
"I tread upon the void..."
As they passed each line of writing, Yan Shan's unease grew increasingly strong; Qiu Xingze asked, "What do you think? Did he write all this?"
Yan Shan replied, "Yes."
Qiu Xingze said, "Is he warning others about the deviant here?"
"It might be about himself," Yan Shan, visibly tense, hugged his arms and nodded, "We need to be careful. Something feels off."
Qiu Xingze said, "According to staff inspections, this place, having experienced severe distortions which even spread further, still retains some polluted spiritual mechanisms and remnants of mad thoughts, even though the distortion has vanished by now. These residuals may cause people to experience mild hallucinations."
Yan Shan replied, "These writings on the walls are too dangerous. I feel like they are still having an effect, polluting every breath of air here, every inch of space. Once we finish investigating this area, we definitely need to have these wall writings sealed."
Qiu Xingze nodded, recognizing that Yan Shan, having been in close contact with Gu Letian, was acutely aware of Gu Letian's malevolent power.
Just then, Qiu Xingze abruptly stopped and pulled Yan Shan to a halt, staring uncertainly ahead.
In front of them, at the end of a dead-end alley, a figure in a black robe knelt silently, shrouded entirely in the robe with a strange white mask covering his face.
The figure silently observed the wall, covered in distorted texts.
He simply watched the texts, utterly silent, looking bizarrely spectral, like a phantom entrenched in the alleyway.
Seeing this person, both Yan Shan and Qiu Xingze became wary. Qiu Xingze addressed the figure, "Who are you? Why are you here?"
The two emitted bursts of Primordial Spirit power, enveloping the figure.
Just then, the shadowy figure moved abruptly and dashed away, about to vanish from their sight.
Yan Shan and Qiu Xingze quickly gave chase but could only see the figure scaling the wall and disappearing from their view.
"Who was that?"
"Too suspicious."
"Maybe related to Gu Letian."
Yan Shan and Qiu Xingze looked at the spot where they had knelt before, and could see the candles left on the ground as well as a strange drawing seemingly written in blood, as if it were some kind of evil ritual.
The two exchanged glances, sensing the oddity in it.
In the twisted land of the night, someone conducted a sinister ritual here, which was sure to be significantly related to Gu Letian.
Without another word, they chased after him.
"Stop!"
The two pursued along the alleyway, and the surrounding walls seemed to tremble slightly as they passed, with the characters on the walls twisting and turning as if they were alive.
The figure in black seemed unaffected, running at an extremely fast speed and appearing even more familiar with the terrain, darting in and out of the darkness, quickly losing Yan Shan and Qiu Xingze.
Not long after his escape, he stopped behind a residential area, waiting until Yan Shan and Qiu Xingze had left before he removed his black robe and mask and walked away in a different direction.
In the darkness, a man and a woman slowly approached him.
Just as the man in black was about to turn and leave, one of the men said, "Jingping Sun, we are here to help you. We know what you've encountered."
The mysterious person gazing dazedly in the alley at the twisted text on the walls was none other than Jingping Sun, the Saint Heir of the Evil Sect.
Having come into close contact with Zhou Bai and been contaminated, his mind was left with mental trauma; he felt he could only find some peace in the alley that retained the twisted aura.
But he knew it wasn't good, continually encountering these twisted phenomena could worsen his mental trauma, bringing him ever closer to transformation.
Yet tonight, when he awoke from his haze, he found himself kneeling in the alley.
It all felt like an inescapable nightmare, one that he couldn't run from or forget.
Jingping Sun looked pale at the moment, his eyes sunken, as if he hadn't slept properly in ten days and nights, his whole being exuded a sense of weakness and decay.
The man blocking his way said, "It's me, Jingping."
The man revealed his identity; he was Wei Cang, who had previously been in contact with Jingping Sun.
Wei Cang looked at Jingping Sun, who appeared suspicious and feeble, and said, "We know what has happened to you..."
The woman standing beside them interrupted Wei Cang, gazing at Jingping Sun with curiosity, "You... are you scared? What did you see?"
The question seemed to strike a nerve in Jingping Sun, who shook his head continuously and stepped back, a flash of madness in his eyes: "Hehehe, you don't understand, you ignorant fools, you don't know anything."
"No, I understand how you feel," the woman spoke slowly as she approached, "Look into your heart, don't be afraid."
As she spoke, an invisible wave swept over Jingping Sun's body, but unlike the past distortions the woman triggered in people's hearts, this seemed to be soothing.
Jingping Sun felt his fear and agitation gradually fade away, his mental state seemingly stabilizing quite a bit, distancing himself once again from the indescribable madness.
He looked at the woman in surprise, "What do you want?"
"Wei Cang said, "In addition to what we previously talked about..."
The woman's face twisted momentarily, reminiscent of when her physical body had been adjusted by the Abyss Nether Dragon Armor, she said lightly, "I want to go see the debate in Daluo Heaven this time."
