Chapter 145: Chapter 145: Injuries

Aurora rushed to the hospital when she knew about her father’s condition.

Looking at his pale face, and sweat on his forehead, and the hand wound, she regretted her decision.

Though everything was according to her plan...and the injuries going forward were going to be a good lesson for Adam to be never soft hearted, a tear slid down from the corner of her eyes.

Yet she wiped it away.

She didn’t have the right to cry when she was the one who had inflicted the pain on her own family member.

Emily, sensing her Aurora’s emotions, said,

"Don’t be sad. You did what was best for him. Going forward he would meet many different enemies, so he couldn’t be indecisive then. It’s better to be betrayed in the initial stage than to cry in the middle."

Aurora cast an indifferent glance and said,

"Don’t overthink. I am not regretting."

However, in reality, her heavy heart felt a bit light.

Just then, Adam woke up.

Seeing the unfamiliar hospital ceiling, he blinked before remembering the last thing that had happened before he passed out.

He turned his head and saw Emily and Aurora.

"Water..."

Aurora immediately rushed to pour him a glass of water and helped him to drink it.

After drinking the water, Adam’s face gained some color. Aurora helped him to sit and asked,

"Father, Emily said you she found you in disheveled state outside a rundown hotel...what happened?"

Her question triggered the betrayal, and Adam’s face turned frosty.

’Adam Price...that b*stard is behind everything. He dared to use such a sneaky move against me...It’s my mistake...I shouldn’t have ignored the obvious signs he had thrown in my direction.’

But he pretended to be fine and said,

"Nothing...I just fell for a trap. Anyways, don’t tell your mother about this...alright?"

Aurora calmly turned her face away, and Adam had an ominous feeling in her heart. Sure enough, the next second, the door of the hospital room was opened and Mary’s anxious voice sounded,

"Adam!"

Adam’s face went pale. "M-Mary?" he stammered.

Mary rushed over to him, her eyes wide with worry.

"What happened? Are you okay? Emily told me you were hurt and in the hospital! Why didn’t you call me?!"

Adam shot a quick glare at Emily, who looked away, pretending to fiddle with her phone.

"I-I didn’t want to worry you, Mary," Adam said, forcing a weak smile. "It’s nothing serious. Just a little accident."

Mary’s eyes narrowed.

"A little accident? You look like you’ve been through a war! And your hand—what happened to your hand?"

Adam tried to hide his bandaged hand, but Mary grabbed it gently and inspected it. Her face twisted with concern.

"I... I just got careless," Adam mumbled. "It’s not a big deal."

"Not a big deal?" Mary snapped. "Emily found you outside a rundown hotel with so many injuries! If she wasn’t there, god knows what would have happened to you..."

Adam shrank his neck and tried to lighten the mood,

"Darling, don’t be angry...it is just a minor injury..."

However, his words fell on deaf ears.

Mary’s eyes turned red and tears started to slip from her eyes.

Adam tried to reach out to her, but she pulled back, wiping her tears angrily.

"Do you have any idea how scared I was when Emily called me? She said you were just lying there... like you were... like you were..."

Mary couldn’t even finish her sentence. Her shoulders were trembling.

Adam felt his own throat tighten. He hated seeing her cry.

"Mary, I’m sorry. I really am. I didn’t mean to make you worry."

If earlier he regretted his decision, now...he hated it. If he wasn’t soft-hearted today...maybe his wife, his Mary, wouldn’t have to cry today...

Aurora saw the regret and guilt in Adam’s eyes and heaved a sigh of relief.

She included her mother, because she knew...Mary was the only person who could make Adam never forget his mistake.

Adam needed to remember what he could lose if he was soft-hearted.

And now he understood it.

It took Adam a long time to calm Mary. Finally, he asked about Mike, and when Adam knew that Mike was fine was too, he heaved a sigh of relief.

Since their injuries weren’t grave and the drug was dealt with, Adam was discharged within 3 hours.

On the way, Aurora noticed how Adam acted clingy toward Mary to make her forget her anger, and she couldn’t help but feel a deep longing in her heart.

Love was a strong emotion. So much so...Aurora could only have it for a limited number of people.

Ding.

The notification on her phone rang.

Aurora unconsciously checked the message and saw it was from Spencer...

He had sent a link.

Aurora: [???]

Spencer: [You would love to see what happened after you left. ]

Aurora: [I won’t open it. What if it is some kind of scam?]

Spencer: "..."

Spencer: [ I will send you $10k if you watch it.]

Aurora: [ Since you saved me, I would watch the video. As for $10k, send it on my Paypal, the number is...]

Spencer: "..."

Aurora chuckled when the "typing" status flashed for a long time, but no message came.

She clicked on the link and, sure enough, a video which was taken from a perfect angle, showcased the argument between Caroline and Mandy.

After watching it at twice the speed, all Aurora wanted to say was...Caroline was truly shameless.

To clear herself from any suspicion, Caroline had sworn that if she ever had slept with Zane, she would fail all her exams.

Spencer: [Your ex-best friend is truly shameless. Have you thought of a way to deal with her?]

Spencer: [ Just to let you know, I can help you.]

Aurora: [Why are you so eager to help me?]

Spencer: [ I love to stir up trouble.]

Aurora: "..." What a great hobby.

Spencer: [So, have you thought of a way to teach them a lesson?]

Aurora smirked and typed a ’yes’.
