Chapter 91: Officially Dating!
"Yes!" Abigail replied, lowering her head and avoiding eye contact with him. She felt too shy to meet his gaze.
"But, Sawyer, you know how my heart is?" she continued in a barely audible tone, trying to remind him of her recent failed relationship. It would be dishonest to say that she loved him, too.
"I know," Sawyer responded firmly. He didn’t mind; he was willing to wait until she had fully healed and could return his love equally.
"Thanks, Sawyer. I hope it doesn’t take me long."
"I understand, Abby. The important thing now is that you officially become my girl. We are officially dating, right?"
Abigail took a deep breath, feeling a mix of emotions at his excitement.
"Yes, we are..." she replied, stifling a laugh when she saw how wide his smile had grown. However, she froze when she noticed him standing up from his chair and approaching her.
In the blink of an eye, she stood on her own feet, facing him. Before she could say anything, he pulled her into his warm, sturdy embrace, and her heart raced.
Instantly, her mind flashed back to the first time they met on the rooftop when she fell into his arms.
"Thank you so much, Abby, for allowing me to love and stand beside you as your partner. I know my feelings seem rushed, but that’s how strongly I feel for you."
He paused to take a deep breath. "You know what? I once read a quote that perfectly captures what I’m feeling right now. Would you like to hear it?" He tilted his head to meet her gaze.
Abigail smiled and nodded, curious.
"The quote goes like this... ’Love is entirely unpredictable and sudden, almost like a shooting star.’ When I read that, it was the first time I truly believed in something like that because that’s how my love for you is, Abby: unpredictable and sudden. I never imagined that spending time on the rooftop that day would lead me to meet you."
Sawyer slowly tightened his arms around her, inhaling her lovely scent that constantly stirred his mind into a whirlwind.
Abigail stayed silent, but her arms tightened around him as if she wanted to express her deep feelings that she couldn’t quite put into words. She liked him, too.
Sawyer’s lips formed a spring-like smile as he felt her warm embrace.
"Don’t worry about anything else; you only need to trust me, Abby. I will never hurt you, now or in the future. I will allow God to punish me with His heavenly wrath if I ever do."
Abigail stifled a laugh in his arms upon hearing his amusing words. She looked up to meet his warm, loving eyes.
"That’s my promise to you, Abigail Snow! I love you—"
"I will put my trust in you, Sawyer Jones. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and feelings with me," she replied, hiding her face in his chest, too shy to say something like that for the first time.
Only now did Abigail realize that her relationship with Ryland had lost its spark long before they graduated from university. They had become too busy running Urbangrid Innovation, causing them to forget they were in a romantic relationship. Even after she moved into his place following his proposal, their spark never felt like now.
Right now, she could feel her heart, mind, and entire self react joyfully, hearing every word Sawyer expressed fondly.

Abigail sat beside Sawyer in his car as they drove to her house. The feeling was completely different from when they had driven to the restaurant earlier.
They were officially dating, and Sawyer never once let go of her hand. Abigail couldn’t stop smiling until his car finally stopped in the parking area near the backyard door.
However, a few minutes later, they remained in the car. She tried to step out and ask him to go home, but he stubbornly insisted that he would walk her to her door.
"Why don’t you want me to go upstairs? Do you still feel awkward around me?" he asked, holding her hand.
"I’m not awkward around you. Why should I be?" Abigail replied calmly.
"I’m just guessing because you didn’t let me go upstairs." His eyes locked onto hers. "I promise I won’t stop by. I just wanted to walk my girlfriend to her door for the first time after we started dating."
Abigail couldn’t help but laugh at this thirty-five-year-old man acting like a teenager.
"Sawyer, it’s almost eleven. What if the homeowner finds out I have a male guest? He might annul my contract..."
Sawyer chuckled to himself as he listened to her concerns.
With a reassuring smile, he said, "Abby, you’re not a teenager; you’re an adult. No one can stop you from inviting your boyfriend into your home. And don’t worry about your landlord. He won’t take any action if he knows your boyfriend is me."
She heard Sawyer call himself her boyfriend enough to make Abigail’s face warm with a mix of surprise and affection.
"Okay..." Abigail found it hard to refuse him now because she worried he might call the landlord and buy the entire place. It would be strange if they ended up living in the same building.
Sawyer smiled, pleased to see that her worries had eased. However, he will find the right moment to reveal his true identity as the homeowner.
...
Sawyer stepped out of the car to open the door for her.
When they arrived at the rooftop, he noticed she looked puzzled, seemingly unsure whether to invite him to stay. This made him smile. He took her hand and pulled her closer.
"I know you’re exhausted, Abby. You can rest. I will head home and call you tomorrow."
Although Sawyer wanted to spend more time with her, he noticed her yawning several times and the tiredness in her eyes, so he decided against it. They still had plenty of time; he could see her again anytime.
"Hmmm. But, Sawyer, please call or text me when you get home," she said, looking up to meet his eyes. Her expression froze when she saw him lean in closer and kiss her forehead gently.
"Goodnight, Abby," he said before leaving.
