After Switching Bodies, the Mad Overbearing CEO Takes Over the Entertainment Industry-Chapter 239 - 234: Adult Ceremony Invitation
Chapter 239: Chapter 234: Adult Ceremony Invitation
Ji Tian perked up immediately, "What?"
King of Competition’s expression turned grave, "Besides this world, there are many parallel worlds, and Lord of the Heavenly Dao exists to maintain the balance of these parallel worlds so that they do not collapse. However, there are always some worlds where the Child of Destiny is overthrown, leading to bugs in the world system. To repair these flaws, it takes a significant toll, but this cost can be mitigated by it integrating itself into all worlds, forming a protection that ensures the world’s luck doesn’t seep away. Yet, it has formed a consciousness of its own, controlling each and every world."
Ji Tian frowned, "You mean, if the Heavenly Dao were to disappear, all these troubles would go away?"
King of Competition answered, "Logically, that should be the case. I presume that it doesn’t want to disappear, which is why it separated one world to create a virtual experiment. As long as this world follows the script it sets to reach the conclusion, the world will cycle indefinitely. A world without consciousness cannot stir the slightest ripple unless it is carrying out its tasks systematically, nor does it have to deal with the troubles of potential world collapse. If it succeeds with one, there will be ten more, a hundred more, a thousand more experimental worlds like this."
How utterly terrifying that would be.
But it’s precisely because it had been separated out that a consciousness could awaken to rebel.
Ji Tian didn’t know if anyone around her had experienced memories of a past life and tried to awaken those memories. It was incredibly difficult to awaken true memories, and this world had undergone two lifetimes, with those memories sealed deeper each time.
Even she herself didn’t know what she had done in the past to change her fate.
"Thank you, King of Competition," Ji Tian said sincerely.
King of Competition was momentarily stunned, then two blushes of red appeared on its eggshell-like surface, "Hate~ What’s there to thank? We’re on the same team now; there’s no need for polite words between family, haha. Just keep the shower gel coming, and we’ll be all good~"
Ji Tian, "..."
She was very curious about how it managed to stay so clean every day, being just an egg.
Reeling her thoughts back in, Ji Tian felt that the concept of Heavenly Dao was too elusive; she could only take things one step at a time, with no telling how twisted the plot had become.
Just the fact that Ji Weinan had become enemies with Bai Tingyu for the female lead, becoming a walking ATM, and always standing protectively in front of her, only to get himself wounded, and later running away from home for her, none of that had happened yet. Instead, he was currently being dragged off to study by her second brother.
They didn’t have any social events anymore either.
And the anti-cancer agent she was researching should have been released by now according to the timeline, but so far, everything seemed calm.
In confusion, Ji Tian decided not to overthink it and went straight to sleep.
On Monday, Ji Tian received an invitation that ruined her day’s good mood, and Ji Weinan’s mood was equally spoiled.
Both siblings asked Ji Qilin in unison, "Second Brother, do we have to go?"
Ji Qilin, elegantly eating his sandwich, swallowed, wiped his mouth with a napkin, and grinned at them, "It’s an invitation from Mr. Bai for you guys to celebrate Tingyu’s eighteenth birthday in three days. Weinan, I remember you getting along well with Tingyu, what’s changed?"
Ji Weinan wore a look of dismay, "Even blood brothers can become sworn enemies, much less when we’re not even brothers. There’s always a time when our principles clash, and I don’t want to go."
He turned his head away. Bai Tingyu’s eighteenth birthday would surely invite Shen Zhiyi—what was he supposed to do there? How awkward it would be, and if some incident occurred and he couldn’t resist helping Shen Zhiyi, wouldn’t all his previous efforts be wasted?
With that thought, he continued, "I’d rather spend an extra three hours studying math at home than go to his place!"
Ji Tian looked at him with surprise and offered an encouraging glance, "Big brother, you’ve changed so much. With your study ethic, you’ll definitely be in the top ten of the school!"
Ji Weinan was flattered, being praised by Ji Tian for the first time ever, and he felt elated. He cleared his throat and cautiously asked, "Little sister, do you really think I can?"
Ji Tian nodded solemnly, full of bluster, "Of course! If you renounce all romantic distractions and focus solely on your studies, you’ll discover a whole new sky waiting for you to soar. Forget the top ten, even the number one spot is within reach if you work hard enough."
Number one?
He dared not entertain the thought, but being in the top ten...
What to do...
Spurred into fervor, he wished he could instantly tackle three sets of competition papers right on the spot.
He clenched his fist, declaring earnestly, "I need to study! Don’t even think about letting any gathering delay my study time!"
Ji Qilin was somewhat speechless. He had pressed him to study so much over the past few days, yet it was Ji Tian’s few words of cajoling that had him willing to comply wholeheartedly.
His gaze lingered on the two of them, "One of you should at least show up to give a nod, right? Just show your face for five minutes, that’s all."
This was because the Ji and Bai families still had cooperative relations.
If neither of them attended Bai Tingyu’s eighteenth birthday, it might give others the impression that there was a rift between the two families. With Old Sir Bai still alive, out of respect for the older generation’s friendship, the Ji Family wouldn’t possibly want to sever ties with them now.
Ji Tian touched her chin, pondering. Ji Weinan couldn’t go, and she feared what mischief might arise, so she said, "I’ll go." Her gaze shifted toward Tang Yu, who was having breakfast beside her, and she smiled slightly, "I want Cousin to accompany me."
Caught unawares mid-chew, Tang Yu shivered as if something disgusting had fixed its gaze upon him. Turning his head, he saw, oh, his soft, cute little cousin smiling sweetly at him. Then it was fine.
He quickly raised his hand, "I’m willing."
"Alright then, the two of you will go. I have to go to work. Tiantian, don’t be late for school with your third brother," said Ji Qilin as he walked out the door.
Tang Yu rose from his seat leisurely, still holding a cup of goji berry tea, "Tsk tsk, high school students should obediently study at school, I’m off to watch cartoons."
He expertly turned on the large television in the living room, navigated to the cartoon channel, selected the dialect version of Tom and Jerry, and watch contently by himself.
Upon arriving at school, Ji Tian and Ji Weinan split ways in the elevator; her class and his class nine were in different directions.
As she passed by class two, she saw Qin Jiangsheng standing on the balcony, his gaze following Ji Tian until she approached. Then, he handed her a food container, "I made walnut cookies, try them."
Ji Tian looked at him blankly, blinking in disbelief, "You can actually cook?"
Qin Jiangsheng glanced at her dismissively, clearly not pleased with her skepticism, "I can do anything if you ask me to."
He stuffed the food container into her arms, "If it doesn’t taste good, just don’t let me see when you throw it away."
Qing Jiangsheng turned around, hands pocketed, also concealing the burns on the back of his hand and fingertips.
This was the result of his efforts after trying and failing around twenty times in one day. The later batches had improved in appearance, and he had left the most successful one for Ji Tian.
After he entered the classroom, Ji Tian finally opened the container. Inside were only five pieces, each golden brown and fragrant, sweet, and crispy.
She tried one, and the milk flavor was rich, mixed with walnut and peanut fragments, crunchy and tasty. Of course, not quite as good as her second brother’s, but the fact that he could bake to this extent was impressive, unlike herself, who could do nothing.
Shen Zhiyi had come up the stairs and immediately saw Qin Jiangsheng giving Ji Tian a box of sweets. She quickly turned the corner to avoid Ji Tian seeing her.
These past few days, Ji Tian’s words had troubled her so much that she couldn’t sleep, dreaming of her own failure, trapped in a world akin to hell, while Ji Tian, fortunate and successful, escaped by stepping over her bloodied corpse.
She woke feeling incredibly indignant.
She wanted to quietly eliminate Ji Tian without raising any suspicion, yet she didn’t know how to find a scapegoat to do the deed for her.
Taking a deep breath, she prepared to head upstairs to her classroom, when in the next second, she was surrounded by Gong Dongxi and his group...
