Chapter 200: Chapter 198 Two Worlds

Ji Tian turned her head and met Ji Qilin’s gaze, who was smiling warmly, "Go ahead and eat."

He was gasping from the heat but kept picking up the spicy hot pot dishes as if to maintain his persona of someone who loved spicy food.

She shifted her gaze back to her bowl. Right, many had noticed that her personality had changed. The old Ji Tian was stiff and dull, quiet and aloof, and her personality was worlds apart from that of the original.

If others could see it, how could her family not?

They had lived with the original Ji Tian day in and day out for seventeen years, familiar with her every move. Yet, for so long, her parents and three older brothers had never expressed any suspicion of her being replaced by someone else.

Even when faced with others’ doubts, her second brother had always covered for her.

After finishing the meal, she was still preoccupied with heavy thoughts.

Quan Ke jogged to catch up with Ji Qilin, "Can you give me a lift?"

Ji Qilin didn’t even glance her way, "It’s not on my way." He then looked towards Ji Tian, "Get in the car, Tiantian, we’re going home."

"Hey! Ji Qilin!" Quan Ke tapped on his car window, then he left her with a whiff of exhaust in the end.

Watching the car grow further away, she looked up at the sky wordlessly. Fine, that relationship wasn’t going to warm up again.

She took out her phone and quickly made a call, "Quan Jingyou, come and pick me up. I’m near Jirun Mall."

Meanwhile, Bai Tingyu had driven his car to take Shen Zhiyi back to her rented fifty-square-meter apartment.

...

On the other side, in Ji Qilin’s car.

The two were on their way back to the villa area.

Ji Tian kept looking out the window until she turned around and noticed Ji Qilin holding the steering wheel with his right hand and subtly pressing on his stomach with his left.

In such cold weather, a fine sweat was breaking out on his forehead.

Ji Tian looked out the window again and said, "Second brother, stop the car."

It was then that Ji Qilin stopped the car by the roadside, "Tiantian, what are you going to do?"

Ji Tian opened the car door, "I’m going to buy something."

She ran off quickly, and after Ji Tian had left, Ji Qilin finally dared to hold his stomach, leaning on the steering wheel, visibly in discomfort.

About five minutes later, upon hearing footsteps outside, he straightened up. Ji Tian opened the car door, bringing in a chill with her as she sat down, and remarked, "The car is still warm; it’s so cold outside."

She was carrying a plastic bag and also a cup of warm water. She smiled at Ji Qilin and shook it, "Ta-da, I bought you some stomach medicine and got a cup of warm water from the pharmacy. Now take the medicine and when we get home, you should get a good sleep. Don’t force yourself to eat spicy food if you can’t handle it. Bai Tingyu isn’t going to eat me, is he?"

Ji Tian handed the cup of water to Ji Qilin and took out two pills from the medicine box, handing them to him, "Here, take these."

Ji Qilin was stunned for several seconds and only smiled and took it under Ji Tian’s gradually puzzled gaze, "Of course, little Tiantian, all these years of affection from your second brother weren’t in vain."

He swallowed the medicine decisively, without even looking, just taking whatever Ji Tian handed him.

Ji Tian watched him and let out a slight sigh, mumbling as she looked out the window, "Why are you so desperate to prove you can handle spice? What if I were an imposter? Then you’d be at a loss, wouldn’t you?"

After finishing his water in one gulp, he placed the cup in the car’s storage slot.

Hearing this, he just smiled, "There’s only one Tiantian, no matter what your personality is like, no matter how different you are from before, you are still our Ji Family’s little princess. I’ve watched over you as you grew up; how could I not know what you’re like? Don’t overthink things based on their nonsense."

"Second brother... I..."

After taking his medicine, the pain in his stomach eased a lot. He rebuckled his seatbelt, "Alright, you are my sister, forever. Did Quan Ke ever tell you about the grudge between her and me? It was because she accidentally dropped the doll you gave me into the river, the one you sent me before you fell ill, saying it was you and that I should take good care of it."

Ji Qilin started the car again, cruising on the smooth road. The neon lights of the Capital City twinkled, turning the arrival of the dark night into day.

There was such a memory in her mind, but she couldn’t remember it clearly.

So she sat up straighter, wondering how this related to their unconditional belief that she was Ji Tian.

Anxiously, she asked, "Then what? What happened to the doll?"

Ji Qilin chuckled lightly, "Obviously it was gone after falling into the river. I cried for a day. I thought I’d lost you. Back then, I was naive, always believing that one of your souls was in that doll, so I treasured it especially, hoping one day you would get better."

"A soul?" Ji Tian was somewhat confused. "What’s that?"

Ji Qilin also felt a bit of a headache, hesitating a moment before speaking, "When you were seven, you waited in the rain all day for Gong Yu to come back. By the time we found you, you had already fainted. You had a fever for three days and three nights. After you came to, you weren’t your cheerful, talkative self anymore. You’d often stare blankly at one spot, and aside from eating and sleeping, you were like an emotionless robot."

"Mom and Dad were really worried about you. Medicine didn’t help, so they sought out a monk from a temple." Ji Qilin gave a light chuckle, "The monk said you were missing a soul and that if we couldn’t find this strand of your soul, you’d be like that for life. I was too young to understand, so I thought your soul was in that doll. That’s why I hated Quan Ke so much after she accidentally lost the doll."

Ji Tian truly didn’t know that she had this part of her past, no wonder the original host’s memory was so vague, like she couldn’t remember anything clearly.

"Then what... what else did the monk say?" Ji Tian continued to ask.

Ji Qilin stopped the car at a red light, speaking slowly, "Mom and Dad asked when you would get better, and the monk said it depended on fate. You might come back, you might not. I felt really guilty and pained during the time the doll was lost; only in my sleep did I find some relief. I met you twice in my dreams."

He paused, turning to look at Ji Tian, who was intently watching him. This memory was not pleasant for him.

"What did you dream about me?" Ji Tian’s gaze was unblinking, feeling as though some truth was about to emerge.

Seeing her so earnestly wanting to know, he sighed, "The dreams weren’t that great either. Dreams are the opposite of reality. During that time, I only dreamed of you twice; the first time I saw you getting beaten up at the orphanage, fighting with a bunch of older kids, stubbornly holding up your dirty face, refusing to cry."

At this point, he couldn’t help but laugh, "The second time was even more interesting. After you got beaten up, you ran out, and I met you at a dump. You were just holding your doll, staring blankly at me, as if you didn’t recognize me. My Tiantian was born into luxury; how could she possibly be an orphan? Countless times I was relieved that it was just a dream. How much heartache would it cause our family if you suffered out there?"

Ji Tian stared blankly at his profile, her eyes growing sour, and the next instant tears surged forth.

So the person she met at the dump in the past, was that really her second brother?

Two worlds, why did they overlap for a moment?
