After Surviving the Apocalypse, I Built a City in Another World-Chapter 1332: Rescued?!
The people assigned here were mostly citizens because most of the slaves (unless they had important jobs in the Town infrastructure) had been sent out.
That said, legitimate citizens like them, whose sole job in this war was to pass on resources—possibly to weaker people—was below them. The only fun part of this was when someone tried to desert, and they'd kick them back.
Technically speaking, only the owner of the body could pay for the usage fee of the array so even if they kicked them at the center of the circle, they wouldn't necessarily be transported. However, they could certainly continue pushing and bullying them enough until they wouldn't have any other choice—and that was quite fun.
Other than that, they grumbled a lot and mumbled about how they'd demand bonuses from the Lord when the war was over.
.
.
.
BOOM!
No, they'd need 100x more remuneration!!!
"AHH!"
"What!!"
Unlike buildings, such items had little defense against bombs, even if the bombs used were the village-level ones. This was especially true for the potions, which could get shattered with a little force, let alone bombs.
The only exception would be the weapons, but it'd take a while longer before they could get to those.
The guards and civilians gasped and didn't immediately absorb what happened, nor where the attack came from.
Using the distraction, Eagle's group ran towards the array. "Act as if you're one of them!" he said. "They don't have uniforms and nor do we!"
They ran towards the array, moving past the chaos that had exploded, seeming to blend in for at least a few moments.
Fargo, unfortunately, was like a cockroach who really didn't know death. Even if he was blown a meter away by the force of the explosion—with shattered earthenware flying straight at him, with some shards even burying in his body—he had enough lucidity to see what had happened.
His eyes constricted when he saw a familiar soldier running straight to the arrays!
THESE BASTARDS!
"GET THEM! GET THEMM! THEY'RE ALTERRANS!!!" he screamed to the top of the lungs, desperate not to make things easy for them!
Better: Alterrans were soft. If they could torture these people and demand things from them by using these people as hostages, then they could get many things!!
Anyway, the Basset citizens realized this and quickly sprang into action. Most of them only had to deal with a few beasts during the duration of this war, so they were mostly in peak condition, unlike Eagle and the others, who had literally endured frequent attacks on the way here.
Eagle's group didn't have the luxury to look back and see how many people were following them. The Alterrans who still had protection charms automatically formed a circle around those who did not, trying to increase everyone's chances.
The kids were shocked by this operation, especially when they ended up being part of the protected group!
Fargo rolled over to the side, nearer the array to see the enemies. "BLOCK THEIR WAY!" he bellowed. "MAKE SURE EVERY PART OF THE ARRAY IS OCCUPIED!!"
BANG! SLASH!
WHAM!
The enemies surrounded the array. There were enough of them to cover it. Luckily for this side of the Basset Forces, it seemed like the war on the other side had changed tides and a lot of deserters had gone back to the array.
They were quickly pulled in to help out, to Eagle and the others' chagrin.
What in the devil's luck—
Fargo almost laughed manically. Considering he was literally crawling on the ground, covered in soil, grime, and blood, he looked particularly crazy. "HAHA! BLOCK THEM BLOCK THEM! BLOCK THEM TO DEATH! HAHAHAHHA!"
Anyway, one wouldn't be teleported just by stepping into the array, and they used the deserters to occupy the area of the array on top of defending it!
One had to have direct contact with the magic arrays for it to work, so having human bodies there to 'insulate' their connection with it was definitely not good.
They also added extra layers of defense to where Eagle and the others were heading, so they couldn't just use force to go through them.
It so happened that many of these deserters were past level 20, which was really more than what Eagle and the others could handle at this time.
At this, the Alterrans had no choice but to make a detour, which was extremely impractical but what could they do?
Eagle and the others gritted their teeth, feeling their protection charms slowly lose durability under the barrage of enemies.
They could only force themselves to focus on their goal, which was to get past the array, knowing it was not practical to attack now.
While they did worry about what would happen in the other side—wherein they'd also be greeted by enemies—they could only take one step at a time now.
That darned Fargo! Causing trouble even until now!
Fortunately, most of the deserters were injured and no longer had much mana or spirit so their main task was literally to just use their bodies to occupy space. This meant that the only damaging attacks that they had to deal with were from the people originally stationed on this side.
There were still at least a score of them though and, even if most of them were lower than level 20, the Alterrans were still very outnumbered.
BANG!
PACK!
A few more hits and their charms would break, they could tell, and they braced themselves for the incoming pain while they tried to make a way for themselves.
Unexpectedly, before that could completely happen—
BANG!
A new group of individuals appeared! Strong ones!
And they started targeting the Basset people!
Eagle and the others were extremely puzzled. They didn't recognize a single one of these people!
However, they didn't dare lower their guard at all and refocused on their main task, which was to get inside the array and use it!
It was here that some people from this group ran parallel to them, and they literally pushed and kicked away the enemies, creating a clean path for them!!
Not to mention the Alterrans, the Basset Folks were also puzzled.
Some of these people were level 30s!! And there was someone at level 40!
Who the heck are these people?!
